2025 NFL Scouting Combine: Linebacker Notes

We’re finishing up the defensive front here at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine. We move onto the linebackers after hitting the defensive line and edge rushers. Overall, this is a pretty good group. The LB’s closed out day one of the Combine and we have lots more to cover so I’m just going to get on with it if you don’t mind!

Eugene Asante (Auburn)

Measurables: Height (6-0 1/2), Weight (223), Arm Length (30 1/4), Wingspan (73 1/2), Hand (8 1/4)

Athletic Testing: 40-Yard Dash (4.48), 10-Yard Split (1.52), Vertical Jump (N/A), Broad Jump (N/A), 3-Cone (N/A), 20-Yard Shuffle (N/A), Bench (21)

NFL Draft Stock Report: Week 14 (Had more actually in 2024 version feel free to check those out), Senior Bowl (1), (2), (3), Game

Dude can run. Heel clicking in the wave drill but eyes are good. No question he has a burst. Great job staying on the line. Like him. 21 reps and that 40 is a nice add on.

Jeffrey Bassa (Oregon)

Measurables: Height (6-1 1/8), Weight (232), Arm Length (31 3/8), Wingspan (78 3/4), Hand (9 1/4)

Athletic Testing: 40-Yard Dash (4.63), 10-Yard Split (1.59), Vertical Jump (38.5), Broad Jump (9’10”), 3-Cone (7.34), 20-Yard Shuffle (N/A), Bench (21)

NFL Draft Stock Report: Senior Bowl (3), Game

Wide base. Feet got stuck a bit. Not a terrible mover. Eye level a plus in the bags. Converted catching the ball. Didn’t look great with the rip in pass rush. Not super clean but he’s passable. Fine performance but nothing outrageous.

Carson Bruener (Washington)

Measurables: Height (6-1 2/8), Weight (227), Arm Length (31 3/4), Wingspan (78 1/4), Hand (9 1/4)

Athletic Testing: 40-Yard Dash (4.58), 10-Yard Split (1.57), Vertical Jump (33.5), Broad Jump (9’11”), 3-Cone (N/A), 20-Yard Shuffle (N/A), Bench (N/A)

Quicksand feet. Faster than quick. Choppy and stuck. Doesn’t trust his eyes. Feet moving too slow through the bags. He’s all over the place. Bad on pass rush. Lost footing. Can’t keep eye level in coverage. Coaches yelling at him for it. Don’t see it at all.

Teddye Buchanan (Cal)

Measurables: Height (6-2 1/8), Weight (233), Arm Length (31 3/8), Wingspan (75 3/8), Hand (9 3/8)

Athletic Testing: 40-Yard Dash (4.6), 10-Yard Split (1.59), Vertical Jump (40), Broad Jump (10’5″), 3-Cone (N/A), 20-Yard Shuffle (N/A), Bench (26)

NFL Draft Stock Report: East-West (4), Game

Bit rugged but moving alright. Solid B level stuff. Nothing crazy but belongs. Doing well in the sprint, change, sprint, drill. Athletically belongs. In totality, really nice workout. Fast, elite jump numbers, strong. Looked good at the East-West. Might be something here.

Jihaad Campbell (Alabama)

Measurables: Height (6-2), Weight (235), Arm Length (32 1/2), Wingspan (80), Hand (10 1/2)

Athletic Testing: 40-Yard Dash (4.52), 10-Yard Split (1.53), Vertical Jump (N/A), Broad Jump (10’7″), 3-Cone (N/A), 20-Yard Shuffle (N/A), Bench (N/A)

NFL Draft Stock Report: Week 2, Week 3, Week 5, Week 8, Week 9, Week 11, Week 13, Week 14, ReliaQuest Bowl

Dragging the feet a bit but movement skills are good. Staying on the line great. Feet really good in the bags. Gear to him is different in the open field. Saw another gear rushing downhill. Has a zip in short area. Catches well. Movement more than there. Got pretty much what I expected, which is really like the player if you can’t tell by the number of times I covered him in the stock notes.

Barrett Carter (Clemson)

Measurables: Height (6-0 1/8), Weight (231), Arm Length (32 1/8), Wingspan (78 5/8), Hand (9 1/4)

Athletic Testing: 40-Yard Dash (N/A), 10-Yard Split (N/A), Vertical Jump (34.5), Broad Jump (9’8″), 3-Cone (N/A), 20-Yard Shuffle (4.41), Bench (N/A)

NFL Draft Stock Report: Week 4, Week 10, Week 14, Conference Championships

Did not run. Wasn’t worried that he was slow before but now might be. Play speed not crazy during the drills. Don’t get why he didn’t run. Short area lacks. Lot of meh but he’s there and passing. Kinda underwhelming but not going to panic because it wasn’t a total disaster.

Jamon Dumas-Johnson (Kentucky)

Measurables: Height (6-0 6/8), Weight (238), Arm Length (32), Wingspan (78 1/2), Hand (9 1/2)

NFL Draft Stock Report: Week 5, East-West (1), (3), Game

Did not workout. Not sure why because he did so at the East-West.

Power Echols (North Carolina)

Measurables: Height (5-11 3/8), Weight (237), Arm Length (30 5/8), Wingspan (75 5/8), Hand (9 1/8)

Athletic Testing: 40-Yard Dash (4.73), 10-Yard Split (1.59), Vertical Jump (37), Broad Jump (9’7″), 3-Cone (7.6), 20-Yard Shuffle (4.56), Bench (N/A)

Slow. Knee bend is fine but gets stuck in the mud. Taking him too long to get through the bags. Not staying on the line. Can’t catch. He sucks. Loose hands. Rounding corners. Slow footed short area. Hard pass.

Jay Higgins (Iowa)

Measurables: Height (6-0 1/8), Weight (224), Arm Length (31), Wingspan (75), Hand (9 1/2)

Athletic Testing: 40-Yard Dash (4.82), 10-Yard Split (1.64), Vertical Jump (33), Broad Jump (9’2″), 3-Cone (7.01), 20-Yard Shuffle (4.35), Bench (N/A)

Slow but credit to him for running. Good football player. Bends fine. In control. Limited athlete. Classic Big 10 linebacker. Has technique. Does a good job just keeping his feet moving. Old school Big 10 linebacker. Maybe he can be another Josey Jewell. Feels like the best case. Slow as dirt is being run out of the game. No bench either. If you’re going to be slow, at least prove you’re strong…

Shemar James (Florida)

Measurables: Height (6-1 3/8), Weight (222), Arm Length (31 1/2), Wingspan (77 3/4), Hand (8 1/2)

Athletic Testing: 40-Yard Dash (4.69), 10-Yard Split (1.56), Vertical Jump (32), Broad Jump (9’9″), 3-Cone (7.09), 20-Yard Shuffle (4.27), Bench (N/A)

NFL Draft Stock Report: Senior Bowl (3)

Looks comfortable coverage wise. Could bend a bit better. Not elite changer but passable. Wouldn’t say he was super smooth but he’s passing.

Kobe King (Penn State)

Measurables: Height (6-0 6/8), Weight (236), Arm Length (31 1/4), Wingspan (78 5/8), Hand (9 1/2)

NFL Draft Stock Report: Week 3, Week 13, Conference Championships, College Football Playoff First Round, Fiesta Bowl, Orange Bowl

Did not run. Did not test at all minus on field. Not staying on the line in the wave. Got yelled at by coaches for not having eyes up. Took forever to turn the corner. Foot work is there. Short area footwork not it. Can’t keep the feet under him. His brother the DB sucks and is the better talent. I don’t think anything is here.

Jack Kiser (Notre Dame)

Measurables: Height (6-1 5/8), Weight (231), Arm Length (30 3/8), Wingspan (75 1/2), Hand (9)

NFL Draft Stock Report: Week 1, Sugar Bowl, Senior Bowl (3)

Did not run. Zero athletic testing Can tell he’s slow and you knew that five seconds in watching the games. Slow motion in drills. The fact that he didn’t do any testing probably means he would have been painfully bad in all of it. Much better going forward. Backward is tough. Covers no ground in the shuffle with zero acceleration. Too wide pass rushing. Can bend but he’s so damn slow.

Demetrius Knight Jr. (South Carolina)

Measurables: Height (6-1 5/8), Weight (235), Arm Length (32 5/8), Wingspan (80 1/2), Hand (10)

Athletic Testing: 40-Yard Dash (4.58), 10-Yard Split (1.58), Vertical Jump (31.5), Broad Jump (9’10), 3-Cone (7.12), 20-Yard Shuffle (4.25), Bench (22)

Crossing the feet a bit. Looks better running straight than sideways. Got yelled at for eye level. Moving more than fine. Tight hipped. Hard for him to turn. Soft hand fighting. Caught on the heels. Ate it dropping back.

Cody Lindenberg (Minnesota)

Measurables: Height (6-2 3/8), Weight (236), Arm Length (32 3/4), Wingspan (77 5/8), Hand (9)

NFL Draft Stock Report: Senior Bowl (2)

Did not work out. No testing of any kind.

Nick Martin (Oklahoma State)

Measurables: Height (5-11 1/2), Weight (221), Arm Length (31 3/4), Wingspan (78 3/8), Hand (9 1/4)

Athletic Testing: 40-Yard Dash (4.53), 10-Yard Split (1.54), Vertical Jump (38), Broad Jump (10’3″), 3-Cone (N/A), 20-Yard Shuffle (N/A), Bench (26)

NFL Draft Stock Report: Senior Bowl (2)

Decent shuffle. Has a bit of a burst to him. Got yelled at for eye level. Athletic traits are there. Gliding well. Short area not as good as long speed. Soft hands. Does a really nice job keeping the feet churning. Sweet vert. Definitely a plus athlete.

Bam Martin-Scott (South Carolina)

Measurables: Height (6-2 1/8), Weight (231), Arm Length (32), Wingspan (79 3/8), Hand (8 3/4)

Athletic Testing: 40-Yard Dash (4.63), 10-Yard Split (1.6), Vertical Jump (33.5), Broad Jump (10’2″), 3-Cone (7.26), 20-Yard Shuffle (4.53), Bench (N/A)

NFL Draft Stock Report: East-West (1), (2)

Play speed in wave not great. Bit of slow motion. Bad eye level. Didn’t trust the feet in the bag. Bad shuffles. No twitch. Not keeping eye level in coverage. Wouldn’t say I was impressed with either South Carolina linebacker but would lean Martin-Scott being better.

Francisco Mauigoa (Miami)

Measurables: Height (6-1 7/8), Weight (233), Arm Length (31 3/4), Wingspan (77 3/8), Hand (10 1/4)

Athletic Testing: 40-Yard Dash (4.6), 10-Yard Split (1.56), Vertical Jump (35), Broad Jump (10’1″), 3-Cone (7.15), 20-Yard Shuffle (4.24), Bench (N/A)

NFL Draft Stock Report: Week 1, Week 5, Pop-Tarts Bowl, East-West (1), (2), Game

40 time was a plus for him. Moving alright in the wave. Nothing special. Not super natural in the drills. Not on the line and swerving. Nice job rushing, like him in that area. Overall solid. Happy he wasn’t slow. Otherwise got what was expected.

Jalen McLeod (Auburn)

Measurables: Height (6-1 5/8), Weight (241), Arm Length (32 1/4), Wingspan (N/A), Hand (9 3/4)

Did not workout in any capacity

Kain Medrano (UCLA)

Measurables: Height (6-2 7/8), Weight (222), Arm Length (32), Wingspan (77 1/4), Hand (9 1/8)

Athletic Testing: 40-Yard Dash (4.46), 10-Yard Split (1.57), Vertical Jump (38), Broad Jump (10’5″), 3-Cone (N/A), 20-Yard Shuffle (N/A), Bench (N/A)

Fast. Wave drill was very easy for him. Looked way more natural compared to the group. Moving fine. Fine is an understatement. Not a rusher at all. Took him a while to become a starter but showed some tools.

Smael Mondon Jr. (Georgia)

Measurables: Height (6-2 2/8), Weight (224), Arm Length (31 3/4), Wingspan (80 1/8), Hand (9 3/4)

Athletic Testing: 40-Yard Dash (4.58), 10-Yard Split (1.52), Vertical Jump (N/A), Broad Jump (10’10”), 3-Cone (N/A), 20-Yard Shuffle (N/A), Bench (N/A)

NFL Draft Stock Report: Week 1, Week 5, Week 12, Week 14, Conference Championships, Sugar Bowl, Senior Bowl (3), Game

Was hoping for faster but the time was plenty good enough. Really nice feet in the wave. Light on his feet and can fire to his spot. Needs better eye level in the bags. Had issues catching the ball. Didn’t show off power. He’s all gear. Burst is there. Took a ball to the face. Bit skittish the next drill. Best broad jump in the group by a mile.

Collin Oliver (Oklahoma State)

Measurables: Height (6-1 6/8), Weight (240), Arm Length (30 3/4), Wingspan (76 1/8), Hand (9 1/2)

Athletic Testing: 40-Yard Dash (4.56), 10-Yard Split (1.57), Vertical Jump (37), Broad Jump (10’6″), 3-Cone (N/A), 20-Yard Shuffle (N/A), Bench (N/A)

Meh. Lot of short choppy steps. Bad eye level. Don’t see anything special he’s just there. Swerving and not on the line trying to cover. Testing wasn’t bad but Martin is the better Okie State guy.

Chris Paul Jr. (Mississippi)

Measurables: Height (6-0 7/8), Weight (222), Arm Length (29 7/8), Wingspan (75 3/8), Hand (9 3/8)

Athletic Testing: 40-Yard Dash (4.63), 10-Yard Split (1.62), Vertical Jump (36), Broad Jump (9’9″), 3-Cone (N/A), 20-Yard Shuffle (N/A), Bench (N/A)

NFL Draft Stock Report: East-West (3)

Trying to keep his hands moving but looks out of control. Kinda cheated the drill. Went to the edges of the bags. Running well in drills. Good keeping his ass down. Trying to use his hands. Kinda clunky but he’s moving okay. Not a game changer but might not totally suck.

Tyreem Powell (Rutgers)

Measurables: Height (6-4 1/2), Weight (239), Arm Length (34 5/8), Wingspan (82 3/8), Hand (9)

Did not workout in any capacity

Karene Reid (Utah)

Measurables: Height (6-foot), Weight (231), Arm Length (N/A), Wingspan (N/A), Hand (N/A)

Did not workout. Even skipped some of the measurements so I don’t really get it.

Carson Schwesinger (UCLA)

Measurables: Height (6-2 1/2), Weight (242), Arm Length (31 5/8), Wingspan (77 1/2), Hand (9 1/4)

Athletic Testing: 40-Yard Dash (N/A), 10-Yard Split (N/A), Vertical Jump (39.5), Broad Jump (N/A), 3-Cone (N/A), 20-Yard Shuffle (N/A), Bench (20)

Did not work out. Bench number and vert were nice. He really should have showed out because Oladejo needed to switch to edge rusher for him to get on the field. Then really took off this year. Why only do 10% of the workout? Lazy or?

Cody Simon (Ohio State)

Measurables: Height (6-1 7/8), Weight (229), Arm Length (31 1/4), Wingspan (75 3/4), Hand (9 3/4)

Did not workout. Zero testing at all.

Danny Stutsman (Oklahoma)

Measurables: Height (6-3 2/8), Weight (233), Arm Length (32 1/4), Wingspan (77 1/2), Hand (9)

Athletic Testing: 40-Yard Dash (4.52), 10-Yard Split (1.55), Vertical Jump (34), Broad Jump (N/A), 3-Cone (N/A), 20-Yard Shuffle (N/A), Bench (N/A)

NFL Draft Stock Report: Week 1, Week 7, Week 13, Week 14

Huge winner for that 40 time. That was his big question and he passed with flying colors. Really good tackler in college. Not a great pure mover but he’s doing a great job staying low to the ground. Can see pure movement skills kinda limited. Better when he doesn’t have to change direction. Better in pass coverage than I thought. Hand work there. Can turn the corner alright. Far from perfect changing direction.

Jalon Walker (Georgia)

Measurables: Height (6-1), Weight (243), Arm Length (32), Wingspan (79 7/8), Hand (10 1/4)

NFL Draft Stock Report: Week 1, Week 3, Week 5, Week 6, Week 7, Week 8, Week 12, Week 14, Sugar Bowl

Did not workout.

Jackson Woodard (UNLV)

Measurables: Height (6-2), Weight (234), Arm Length (31), Wingspan (77 5/8), Hand (9)

Athletic Testing: 40-Yard Dash (N/A), 10-Yard Split (N/A), Vertical Jump (N/A), Broad Jump (N/A), 3-Cone (N/A), 20-Yard Shuffle (N/A), Bench (21)

NFL Draft Stock Report: Week 9, Week 14, Conference Championships, East-West (2), (4), Game

Did not run. Passed the wave drill. Covered ground well. Not elite feet but good enough. Shuffles well. No real issues moving around. Nice job with the hands. Some spazz to him but gets the job done. For the most part, job well done. Solid bench number. Looks like a slightly agile brick wall.
