The West team got whooped 25-0. When you lose like that, I’m not quite sure what there is to say but we’ll go through these NFL Draft notes the best we can. These will just be flash takeaways. We do have the film version of all the practices so more content from the Shrine Bowl will be on the way. Here are your West Team game notes from the 2025 East-West Shrine Bowl!
Quarterback:
Brady Cook started the game. I think I’ve decided he throws the best ball in this group but that’s about the best compliment I can give. Wasn’t very mobile. Kept taking sacks and holding onto the ball too long. Finished the game 6/9 for 69 yards. I’m not sure what there is to take from this game. He looked how he looked all year. Painfully below average with no real future beyond maybe following in Chase Daniel’s footsteps if he’s lucky and works hard.
Ethan Garbers gets the next show after two series. Immediately throws a pick to Deleware on a bad ball. Arm got hit by Clemson but some of it was on Garbers for his low release point and not getting rid of it sooner. 4/8 for 40 yards and two picks. I thought he looked bad and worse yet, not physically imposing or commanding at all.
Max Brosmer didn’t look great. That’s being nice. Overwhelmed by pressure. He was really bad in the game. Horrible throw off target to Lachey that ended up a pick 6. 9/18 for 55 yards.
They’re all undraftable.
Running Back:
Tahj Brooks got the first carry. Thought he looked bad during the practices and wasn’t impressed in the game either. Caught a few passes but rushed for 14 yards on five carries. Doesn’t look fast. Doesn’t look shifty. Has some production but movement skills wise, he’s not anything.
Corey Kiner had three carries for 20 yards. Not sure what I’m supposed to do with that. Didn’t love him during the practices.
When you factor in the QBs looked like trash and the RBs looked like trash… you start to understand why this game was never close.
Wide Receiver:
Number zero couldn’t cover Will Sheppard on a fade. Provided very little resistance on it. Not surprising to see that’s who Sheppard does his damage. Breaks up the second one but didn’t turn around for the ball at all. That sums up his day.
Abilene Christian’s Blayne Taylor with a drop when Deleware hits him. Had another target and couldn’t haul it in. Finished the day with nothing.
Juice Wells had two nice catches for 22 yards. That sums up this group.
Tight End:
Caden Prieskorn with a fumble in the second quarter. Ball security is job security. 21 knocked it free. Had a bad drop in the 4th with the game well out of hand. Had one catch for five yards.
It was the two unheralded guys who actually did something. Carter Runyon is more of a blocker but had three grabs. Maybe he can be functional as that blocker who chips in with something.
It was Jalin Conyers who flashed the most. He started to gain momentum as the week went on for practice. Two grabs for 21 yards. Honestly, you could argue he was the most impressive pass catcher in this game.
Offensive Line:
Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson can’t block Johnny Walker. Zoomed by him for a big pressure. He wasn’t good during the week either. John Williams also got destroyed by Walker on the strip sack.
Jack Conley got his tail kicked in by Tonka Hemingway. Couldn’t block him at all.
Hollin Pierce was my favorite from the week of practice. Just throwing that in so I’m not all negative here.
Defensive Line:
Tyler Batty is probably the only one worth talking about. Had two quarterback hits in the game. Has some gamer quality to him. Eye test wise he belonged.
Linebackers:
Jackson Woodard is my favorite from this team but Teddye Buchanan led the team in tackles.
Cornerbacks:
Almost a Cal connection with Nohl Williams tipping it to Craig Woodson covering 17. Excellent coverage but they couldn’t finish the pick. There have been a ton of Cal secondary guys here that have been hard to tell apart when the practices are zooming. I’ll be looking through the tape version to investigate more. From what I could see, Williams was grabby in practice but played well in the game.
Safeties:
Have to give Shilo Sanders this. He was way better in the game compared to practice. Tackled very well. Had a pass breakup on the Auburn tight end. He was HORRIBLE during practice. At least looked very functional in the game.
