Miami

It seems like I watch Miami every week but I just have a few complaints about the circumstances around Cam Ward. He’s in shot gun the entire game and is asked to carry the team. The weapons are good but the defense can’t stop anything. It’s shoot out city all the damn time. I actually think he would look even better than he does if there was a real complimentary football mentality for the team.

It was more of the same for Ward. He was damn good again. 25/39 for 348 yards and three passing touchdowns. The problem is he did what his past competition has been falling victim to. He ran out of gas and the sack fumble killed them in the end. You can blame Ward if you want to. I’m not doing it.

Georgia Tech threw the ball 16 times and won. They rushed for 271 yards averaging 5.6 yards per carry. It’s more insane that Miami almost won. If your transitioning this guy to the NFL, I have a hard time believing an NFL team is dumb enough to throw him in shot gun and ask to throw it all over the lot. What we really need to consider is that Ward has taken meat head Mario to a level we didn’t think was possible. That’s what should be talked about.

This Miami tight end Elijah Arroyo is damn good. Basically first play of the game. You see this dude run in the open field? Tight ends don’t look like this. Total gazelle. Oozes potential.

Sam Brown just isn’t that good. He’s their worst weapon and it’s not close. Had a chance on a deep ball and looked like a bad centerfielder that couldn’t judge it. Second quarter should have converted a key third down in the two minute drill. Dropped it with the slightest contact. I’ve been saying it for weeks but he’s clearly behind the other guys they have in the pecking order.

Jacolby George probably had his best game. Seven receptions for 88 yards. Also was clearly hampered and laid on the ground a bunch being hurt. Xavier Restrepo scored again and is only adding onto his records at Miami. I saw a mock draft the other day that had him in the first round. I have no idea if that’s true but that’s Looney Tunes. Clearly has emerged as a reliable weapon but how crazy we going here?

Georgia Tech

Jamal Haynes might be something? After three carries for 83 yards and a score he got ruled out with a concussion. Has looked banged up all year. A shame because this was a hot start to start proving something.

Haynes King was limited in the game too. He kept getting subbed in and out. Clearly looked like he couldn’t push the ball down the field at all. By the way, this Georgia Tech offense is a joke. Their best and only play was QB draw. Somehow that was enough to make the Miami defense bleed. I think it says more about the Miami defense. Couldn’t stop the QB draw after you knew it was their only play. Inexcusable.

Florida

No Lagway in this one so it’s hard to say if they even had a shot in this one.

I turned the game off at halftime when they were down 35-0. I just want to know what Florida was thinking they declared Billy Napier was coming back in 2025. What exactly what the rush on making that declaration? He’s gotta go and that’s so obvious.

Texas

Quinn Ewers looked much better in this one. I guess front runner mentality can be applied but he still looked way better. I mean way better. Looked healthier too. Walk in the park looked easy against a Florida team that was starting to show some life. Maybe that life died once DJ Lagway didn’t play. Just looked so much better in the lower half. Maybe he came back too soon from the injury. Certainly benefits from the eye candy Texas runs but four touchdowns in the first half speaks for itself. Encouraging to see him look like himself again. Still very much in the mix for the top 2025 NFL Draft QB spot. Has to be. Lot of ball left to play.

Anthony Hill Jr. is the best player on this team.

Gunnar Helm, the tight end, keeps doing the damn thing. Tall and finding ways to score.

Georgia

Fun fact. Georgia leads all of FBS in drops. Not defending Carson Beck but as I said last week, it’s hard not to think about Brock Bowers and Ladd McConkey. His targets let him down in this one. Bad drop by London Humphreys. Ben Yurosek dropped a brutal ball. His targets just are not it minus if you want to count Dom Lovett as an okay slot guy.

I genuinely don’t think Beck even played poorly. He was under constant pressure when that hasn’t been the case for most of his career. The pick was a tipped ball at the line of scrimmage. Based on how he’s played the last four weeks, you could argue this performance was better than any of the recent outings.

Ole Miss had five sacks in this one. I can’t remember the last time Beck got pressured that much in a game. He also got no support in the run game. Georgia finished the game with 1.8 yards per carry. This also goes back to a larger conversation we had all the way back to last year. Last year things were in Beck’s favor and he looked number one pick worthy. This year he has more to overcome and it’s been bad. Clearly has talent and is way more of an athlete than anyone gives the guy credit. I’m just not sure this will ever be a thing where he carries the team. Also, maybe chill out on the eye black. It’s a bit much when you’re playing poorly.

Trevor Etienne remains banged up. Six carries for 24 yards of meh. Freshy Frazier looks better anyway.

Ole Miss

Jared Ivey went nuts. Two sacks, TFLs, and pass deflections each. The guy was everywhere and truly wrecked the game. Walter Nolan was fine too but Ivey was the one who made the wow plays. 6-foot-6, 285. Certainly looks like a nice toy for any defensive line. 3-4 teams for sure.

Remember we noted this a few weeks ago. Henry Parish got hurt. We didn’t even see him in this one. Ulysses Bentley had a nice touchdown run but otherwise it wasn’t anything pretty. He’s a nothing power back at best.

Jaxson Dart was fine? I’ve been saying this for weeks/years but I’ve never been impressed by him. The more I watch him the more I see PTSD from Matt Coral. Dart is an inch taller but they sort of play the same. Skinny with mobility and unfraid to take these deep shots down the field. It’s cool in college. We’ve seen with Corral (who I may have taken a shot on in the third round) that it’s probably a nothing burger at the NFL level. You can say I’m being harsh but rewatch the drive by Austin Simmons and tell me how Dart elevates the offense beyond the point where he elevates the team beyond a shadow of a doubt. Tre Harris didn’t play and am acknowledging he was down his best guy too. I could not mention it but that would be irresponsible trying to create a narrative. Trey has no bias. That’s why you’re reading this. I speak the truth and sometimes it hurts.

Trey Amos? Did a pretty decent job tackles. It matters.

Alabama

Jalen Milroe got back on track. However, I’m not sure if we should totally buy into it. The guy was sensational. Milroe rushed for four touchdowns on 12 carries for 185 rushing yards. The passing wasn’t overwhelming but I just can’t help but bring up on small detail. Last week LSU got whooped by Marcel Reed and played defense fine when Connor Weigman was in the game.

Let’s not forget about the South Carolina game too. LaNorris Sellers picked LSU apart too. This could very well be a schematic thing. LSU just can’t stop running quarterbacks. We’ve seen it over and over again. Brian Kelly isn’t a defensive minded guy. As good as Milroe was, the failures of LSU trying to defend rushing quarterbacks can’t be ignored.

These Alabama running backs just don’t pass the smell test compared to the ones they’ve had in the past. Justice Haynes has the most promise but we’re still in wait-and-see mode. The fact that Richard Young had the most success is not a good sign.

I sound like a broken record but what else am I to say? Jihaad Campbell and Deontae Lawson. They change the game every single week. Campbell is a freak. Watching him run sideline to sideline is incredible for the size, power, and speed he has.

I’m just going to keep repeating myself because I just don’t know how everyone doesn’t love both of these guys. Lawson had a pick. Campbell notched 1.5 sacks, three TFLs, and a key pass breakup. Both are big and play coverage well. Really good downhill blitzing. It’s hard to find linebackers that can control the game. But with Campbell I don’t even know what he is yet. I bet you he could get 10 sacks in the NFL as an edge player. If you want the next CJ Mosley, just turn the card in for Lawson. For the 2025 NFL Draft, I got a hard time believing you’re ranking several linebackers ahead of these two.

LSU

This Kyren Lacy drives me nuts. Great movement skills. His hands suck worse than a desperate stripper who is two months late on her rent. Didn’t create a ton of separation. Bama played a lot of man and he couldn’t get open. Not a single reception in the first half.

Came alive more in the second half but the result was already obvious. It’s safe to declare now that we’re not talking Ja’Marr Chase / Justin Jefferson territory.

I haven’t figured out what Mason Taylor is yet but he’s clearly something. Looks like a lump of clay right now. I don’t know what the blocking profile might be down the line either. I’m sure he hopes he can become the next Jimmy Graham. Jimmy Graham wasn’t Jimmy Graham overnight either. Maybe.

Okay, I guess we’ll attempt to talk about Garrett Nussmeier. You can’t deny he makes NFL throws. The one over the top to Taylor was incredible. He does stuff like this all the time. Comes out of his hand great. I more so think that he’s smart but fooled at the same time. It’s flashes of Favre over and over. Live and die by the gunslinger. Favre is obviously a high bar and I’m not guaranteeing that’s what he becomes. But let’s really break those mistakes down. It was a repeat of the Texas A&M game. I’m not an X’s and O’s guy but this is what I saw. He saw man, it became zone like the off defender knew to switch like in a basketball play. Nussmeier never sees it coming. That happened several times.

Finished with 239 yards on 42 attempts with one touchdown and two picks. We can kill the guy for this if we want but he’s one of many reasons why they lost. Not the only reason.

Quick Hitters:

I watched some of the Colorado vs. Texas Tech game. Texas Tech can’t cover anybody so we’re not doing any freak outs. What I’ll say on Shedeur is that he continues to do what he does every game. Efficient, holds onto the ball too long, makes really accurate throws deep down the field, and has a strong feel for what he’s doing. This supporting cast beyond Travis Hunter isn’t overly special either. The guy is good and if you’re hating it’s because you have issues.

This Tahj Brooks. I watched him more again. He’s broken records at Texas Tech. I don’t like him. I saw a couple runs. Slow footed in short area. He will be anything special. Don’t care what his stats were. That’s not a legitimate NFL starter running back. No way.

Michigan wishes they had Kurtis Rourke.
