Tank Dell 2023 NFL Draft Profile

We somehow have two players in the 2023 NFL Draft with the name Tank. We already covered Auburn running back Tank Bigsby. Today we’re here to talk about Houston wide receiver Tank Dell. Except this Tank is much, much smaller. Let’s get right into the Tank Dell 2023 NFL Draft profile!

Yes, most small receivers fail. However, this one might be good enough to overcome it. First and foremost, the production is there. At the end of the day, the stuff on the field trumps all. Well, most of the time anyway. Dell has been one of, if not the most productive wide receiver in college football over the last two years. Combine 2021 and 2022 together and you’re looking at 199 receptions for 2,727 yards for 29 touchdowns. That’s about as good as it gets.

I didn’t love everything I saw at the combine. Yes, I held the size against him but I’m not sure you’re getting the most polished wide receiver. It feels like a lot of juice wound up in a bowling ball that’s an under cover spaz. Maybe it’s a good thing. Maybe it’s a bad thing. The landing spot may be an important factor. If you ask Dell to do things he can’t do, then I’m pessimistic it works.

Dell also really worked his way up the latter. Impressive production considering he went from Alabama A&M to Community College, then to Houston. He’s also 5-foot-8, 165 which is really past the threshold. It’s hard to find players that small that pan out. Really short arms and small hands too. We can act like it doesn’t matter but it doesn’t. Catch radius matters and when you have 21 drops over the last two years, the small hands become a factor.

I’m willing to take a shot on Tank Dell in the 6th-7th round range but nothing more than that. The size is just too damning here to go higher. It sounds like other draft people are much higher and they can have him at that point.
