Mike Francesa: Jets’ Decision Makers ‘Should Be Shot’ If They Pass On Joe Alt
What will the Jets do with the number ten overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft? Famous New York sports radio icon Mike Francesa has a strong take on who they should take. Francesa went so far as to say that Joe Douglas and the rest of the front office “should be shot” if the Jets pass on Joe Alt if available with the 10th pick.
“He’s probably gonna be there for the Jets. If the Jets get the good fortune of Alt being there at 10, if they don’t take him, they should be shot,” Francesa said.
“And if Alt’s there, pop the champagne corks, because that will be a home run. That will be a guy who will be a 10-year starter, maybe a 14-year starter — a multiple-time All-Pro. He is a can’t-miss player on the offensive line. Can’t miss. Right pedigree, right everything.”
Good thing I’m not running the Jets or I may have to go into witness protection so Francesa doesn’t shoot me in the chest with a shotgun. If you read my notes from the Combine , you know where I stand on Alt. I’ll gladly take the extra click, but if you’re feeling lazy, he would not be the first tackle off the board for me. Not saying he’s a bad player but the idea that Alt is a can’t miss first ballot Hall of Famer, I can’t get on board with that.
Time will tell what the Jets decide to do. The only thing that’s clear is that Tyron Smith (who signed a deal with New York) should be treated as a Band-Aid. The Jets still need to prioritize the line during the draft.
