Should the Bears draft Bryce Young? What if we’re all asking the wrong question. I would argue that it should start at the top. What has Ryan Poles done to deserve the opportunity to make this decision for the Bears?
We all make mistakes. It happens. I don’t expect every general manager to be perfect. However, I do expect him to be more competent than a five year old. If you watch the games and you have an IQ above 12 then you knew at the time how ridiculous it was to swap Roquan Smith for Chase Claypool. Except Poles didn’t just execute this swap. He traded away the 32nd pick for the 49th pick in the upcoming draft to do it.
I may as well just reshare a paragraph from that post because it simply does it proper justice.
“Ryan Poles exposed himself as a moron today. Trading away Roquan Smith for a second rounder to spark the rebuild was understandable. However, re-routing that pick to Pittsburgh for Chase Claypool is classic Bears! You just can’t make it up if you tried. “
How did Poles get away with this? Yes, Roquan Smith got $100 million and he deserves every penny. It’s probably the only thing Eric DeCosta and I agree on. I don’t love everything that DeCosta has done but at least he’s not a total hack like Poles has proven to be.
Baltimore ranked 15th in DVOA through the first eight weeks of the season. Since the trade, the Ravens are 3rd and number two against the run. Smith is one of if not the most complete linebacker in football and makes everyone else around him better. Patrick Queen has become fully unlocked now that he gets to roam free knowing Roquan will do the dirty work. This wasn’t the Patrick Queen we were getting before in Baltimore. With Roquan in town, he’s a different animal.
Except somehow you people don’t have brains. I already know losers like Colin Cowherd don’t watch the games. Somehow we exist in a world where Ryan Poles can be praised for making one of the worst trades in NFL history and get paid millions of dollars to do it! Worse yet, the sports commentators get paid to cover up the lies! Idiots like Cowherd claimed the Bears were better for the swap.
So how did Chase Claypool do with Chicago after the trade deadline?
Claypool isn’t an aircraft carrier like Smith is at linebacker. Of course, you know that if you simply have eyes. Realistically, Claypool is a big body receiver type tight end. I comped him to Evan Engram coming out (which is kinda accurate if I do say so myself). Nobody with a brain thinks that guy is a premier wide receiver talent. There was no reason to give up an early, middle, or late second round pick to go acquire him. On a team where Claypool had zero competition for targets, the former Steelers receiver has made almost zero impact. It won’t change in the future either.
What should the Bears do in the draft? Who cares? What does it matter when you have a raging idiot steering the ship. Don’t talk to me about how the Bears weren’t going to pay Roquan anyway. If Poles were smart he would have. Oh, and he also lied to his face about trading him. Does that count for nothing?
I can’t believe I’m saying this but are we sure the Bears upgraded from Ryan Pace? I’ve been sticking the Bears in my pocket for years and it looks like I’ll have to do it again. First it was Trubisky. Now it’s the dummy that somehow thinks Claypool is better than Smith. Where will it end? How is Ryan Poles still employed? Have no clue. Doesn’t make sense to any logical person. I hate all of you. This is example 3827. Way to go Bears!
