Chase Claypool is on the move again. The only difference is Ryan Poles got one penny on the dollar compared to what he gave up the first time. The trade was clearly a disaster by the Bears and today is the day they’re officially moving on from Claypool.
The Miami Dolphins have struck a deal with Chicago for Claypool. The deal essentially involves a late round swap that will likely turn into nothing.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport was the first to report the news:
A few thoughts from myself:
A: It’s comical that Ryan Poles is even still employed. It’s not hindsight bias. Read the posts. This guy is a dope and has been since day one. Moving down in the draft to swap Roquan Smith for Chase Claypool never made sense. It only became more comical when that pick turned into pick 33 and Pittsburgh wound up with Joey Porter Jr.
B: I actually don’t hate the fit in Miami. It could be an okay gamble. If he’s your third guy to play in the slot while being surrounded with the speed demons of Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle… it could work. It’s really the only way Claypool was ever going to make it in the NFL. As you can see by the embed, I’ve always believed his best role was as a glorified receiving tight end. In Miami, that may in fact be his role.
Let’s hear from you in the comments. Do you think this was a smart gamble by Miami or will Claypool flame out with the Dolphins?
