2025 NFL Scouting Combine: Safety Notes

We’re finally through all the notes on the defense! It’s been a grind this year as I’m going more in depth than ever, but I hope you’re enjoying your stay! The 2025 NFL Scouting Combine notes on defense wrap up with the safety group. If you missed the defensive lineedge rusherslinebackers, and cornerbacks, click the links accordingly.

I actually liked the safety group this year. Some years it’s a lot of trash. This year it’s pretty deep throughout and has some high end guys at the top. Without further ado… here are your safety notes for the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine!

Billy Bowman Jr. (Oklahoma)

Measurables: Height (5-9 7/8), Weight (192), Arm Length (28 1/2), Wingspan (70 3/4), Hand (8 5/8)

NFL Draft Stock Report: Week 1, Week 13, Senior Bowl (2), (3)

Nice job staying low. Good play speed. Pumping the arms well. Staying on the line. Zooming out there. Super impressed. Dude can play. No pauses. Great day. Aced gauntlet.

Sebastian Castro (Iowa)

Measurables: Height (5-11 1/4), Weight (203), Arm Length (30 3/4), Wingspan (74 3/8), Hand (10 1/2)

Athletic Testing: 40-Yard Dash (4.59), 10-Yard Split (1.59), Vertical Jump (30.5), Broad Jump (9’9″), 3-Cone (N/A), 20-Yard Shuffle (4.34), Bench (N/A)

NFL Draft Stock Report: Senior Bowl (3), Game

Not moving fast but technically sound back pedal. Eyes are up. On the line. Smooth but not explosive. Needs to catch it better. Fairly solid day.

Alijah Clark (Syracuse)

Measurables: Height (6-0 3/4), Weight (188), Arm Length (30 7/8), Wingspan (77 3/4), Hand (9 1/2)

Moving fast but not staying low. Long but not a bender. Hitch to go run. Cheating drills anticipating.

Kitan Crawford (Nevada)

Measurables: Height (5-10 5/8), Weight (202), Arm Length (31), Wingspan (75 1/4), Hand (9 1/2)

Athletic Testing: 40-Yard Dash (4.41), 10-Yard Split (1.52), Vertical Jump (41.5), Broad Jump (10’8″), 3-Cone (6.81), 20-Yard Shuffle (4.03), Bench (18)

NFL Draft Stock Report: Week 0

Moving alright. Focus drop at the end of a rep. Staying on the line alright. Solid play speed. Can bend and fire. Really nice plays tracking down the field with plus speed. Really nice day. Solid job staying low. Really impressed. You add in those crazy jumping numbers with the plus speed. Might be a real gem here.

Nick Emmanwori (South Carolina)

Measurables: Height (6-3), Weight (220), Arm Length (32 1/2), Wingspan (78 1/4), Hand (9)

Athletic Testing: 40-Yard Dash (4.38), 10-Yard Split (1.49), Vertical Jump (43), Broad Jump (11’6″), 3-Cone (N/A), 20-Yard Shuffle (N/A), Bench (20)

Ran and jumped but no on field. Obviously tested like a maniac and is physically strong. Testing numbers stupid good.

Maxen Hook (Toledo)

Measurables: Height (6-0 1/2), Weight (202), Arm Length (31 1/2), Wingspan (75 1/2), Hand (9 1/2)

Athletic Testing: 40-Yard Dash (4.55), 10-Yard Split (1.55), Vertical Jump (34.5), Broad Jump (10’4″), 3-Cone (N/A), 20-Yard Shuffle (N/A), Bench (N/A)

Athletic Testing: 40-Yard Dash (4.57), 10-Yard Split (1.56), Vertical Jump (37), Broad Jump (10’8″), 3-Cone (7.1), 20-Yard Shuffle (4.28), Bench (N/A)

Hopping rather than using his feet. Stuck on the heels. Not natural hip turns. Mediocre. Too many hitches. Screwed up the box had to go to the back of the line. Nothing here.

R.J. Mickens (Clemson)

Measurables: Height (6-0), Weight (199), Arm Length (32 1/4), Wingspan (77 5/8), Hand (8 7/8)

Athletic Testing: 40-Yard Dash (4.49), 10-Yard Split (1.55), Vertical Jump (41.5), Broad Jump (10’1″), 3-Cone (N/A), 20-Yard Shuffle (N/A), Bench (N/A)

NFL Draft Stock Report: College Football Playoff First Round, East-West (4)

Needs to be lower. Not terrible but not ideal. Feet really close together. Drifting off the line both sides. All over the place going back. Shaky turns. Speed and jumping numbers were there. Doesn’t appear physically imposing.

Malachi Moore (Alabama)

Measurables: Height (5-11 1/4), Weight (196), Arm Length (29 5/8), Wingspan (75 1/4), Hand (9)

Did not workout in any capacity.

Andrew Mukuba (Texas)

Measurables: Height (5-11 1/4), Weight (186), Arm Length (30), Wingspan (75 3/8), Hand (9)

Athletic Testing: 40-Yard Dash (4.45), 10-Yard Split (1.53), Vertical Jump (N/A), Broad Jump (N/A), 3-Cone (N/A), 20-Yard Shuffle (N/A), Bench (N/A)

NFL Draft Stock Report: Week 2, Week 8, Conference Championships, Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl, Cotton Bowl

Ran but no on field.

Lathan Ransom (Ohio State)

Measurables: Height (6-0 1/4), Weight (206), Arm Length (30 1/2), Wingspan (75 1/8), Hand (8 1/2)

Did not run. Using hands well to pump arms. Drifting a tad. Needs to be lower. Couldn’t run down the deep balls for him. Happened more than once. Can’t fire and go. Caught on the heels. Takes him time to gather and drive.

Jaylen Reed (Penn State)

Measurables: Height (5-11 5/8), Weight (211), Arm Length (30 3/8), Wingspan (74 1/4), Hand (9)

Athletic Testing: 40-Yard Dash (4.49), 10-Yard Split (1.51), Vertical Jump (33.5), Broad Jump (N/A), 3-Cone (N/A), 20-Yard Shuffle (N/A), Bench (19)

Overall solid. Staying on the line. Acceptable play speed. Really nice turns. No hesi. Looks easy for him. Catching the ball no problem. One shaky drop. Very impressed.

Jonas Sanker (Virginia)

Measurables: Height (6-0 3/8), Weight (206), Arm Length (32 1/4), Wingspan (77 5/8), Hand (9 3/4)

Athletic Testing: 40-Yard Dash (4.48), 10-Yard Split (1.51), Vertical Jump (36.5), Broad Jump (10’8″), 3-Cone (N/A), 20-Yard Shuffle (N/A), Bench (12)

Little back bender. Jumpy at the start of reps. Takes time to spin body around. Staying straight on the line. Passable. Takes him time to gather. Not terrible but not blown away.

Marques Sigle (Kansas State)

Measurables: Height (5-11 3/8), Weight (199), Arm Length (30 3/4), Wingspan (74), Hand (-)

Athletic Testing: 40-Yard Dash (4.37), 10-Yard Split (-), Vertical Jump (-), Broad Jump (10’10”), 3-Cone (N/A), 20-Yard Shuffle (N/A), Bench (N/A)

Fast. Play speed there but not excellent. Straight line faster than actually flying on these drills. Gliding vibes. Eyes are up. Lacks balance.

Malaki Starks (Georgia)

Measurables: Height (6-0 7/8), Weight (197), Arm Length (31 5/8), Wingspan (78 3/8), Hand (9 1/2)

Athletic Testing: 40-Yard Dash (4.50), 10-Yard Split (1.51), Vertical Jump (33), Broad Jump (N/A), 3-Cone (7.26), 20-Yard Shuffle (4.45), Bench (N/A)

NFL Draft Stock Report: Week 1, Week 5, Week 14, Conference Championships, Sugar Bowl

Like the 40 for him. Unbelievably smooth on the back pedal. That’s a football player. He’s different in a good way. Incredible tracker. High points were nice. Beyond nice. Shifts his weight well. Just a winner. Bad three cone number. Except he was number 1 in the MPH ratings for the on field stuff so the smart people will figure it out…

Starks was the fastest safety MPH wise in 5 of the drills, which confirms what my eyes saw in real time.

Starks hit 15.24 mph during the short shuttle, 17.92 mph during the wave drill, 18.39 mph during the gauntlet drill, 18.66 mph during the line drill, and 18.74 mph during the Teryl Austin drill. Number one in the group for all of those.

Dante Trader Jr. (Maryland)

Measurables: Height (5-10 7/8), Weight (196), Arm Length (31 1/4), Wingspan (75 1/8), Hand (8 7/8)

Athletic Testing: 40-Yard Dash (N/A), 10-Yard Split (N/A), Vertical Jump (31), Broad Jump (9’9″), 3-Cone (7.09), 20-Yard Shuffle (4.32), Bench (12)

Too high. Did not run. Not natural turner. Needs to bend better. Trying to guess the drills. No burst to fire. Nothing to write home about in a positive way.

Malik Verdon (Iowa State)

Measurables: Height (6-3 5/8), Weight (218), Arm Length (32 1/4), Wingspan (78 3/8), Hand (9 1/2)

Athletic Testing: 40-Yard Dash (N/A), 10-Yard Split (N/A), Vertical Jump (N/A), Broad Jump (N/A), 3-Cone (7.06), 20-Yard Shuffle (4.34), Bench (N/A)

Did not run. Barely tested outside the cone and shuttle. Incredibly slow backpedal. Iowa State guys don’t like to bend knees. Wants to be pegged so bad. Con job. Slow motion. Syrup on his shoes. Easily the worst one here. Cheating reps cutting early. Guy stinks. Ate it on the box drill. Send him home. He’s embarrassingly bad. Then ate it again on the box. I feel like I’m watching a joke. There’s no way a human at this even is this bad.

Xavier Watts (Notre Dame)

Measurables: Height (5-11 3/4), Weight (204), Arm Length (31 1/2), Wingspan (76 1/2), Hand (8 5/8)

NFL Draft Stock Report: Week 1, Week 8, College Football Playoff First Round, Sugar Bowl, Orange Bowl, National Championship

Did not workout in any capacity. When you have 13 interceptions the last two years, you get a pass.

Kevin Winston Jr. (Penn State)

Measurables: Height (6-1 1/2), Weight (215), Arm Length (32 1/2), Wingspan (80 7/8), Hand (9 1/2)

Did not workout. Spent a lot of time hurt this past year. If you want to watch him, reefer to the year before. Pretty good player.

Hunter Wohler (Wisconsin)

Measurables: Height (6-2), Weight (213), Arm Length (30/58), Wingspan (75 3/8), Hand (9 1/4)

Athletic Testing: 40-Yard Dash (4.57), 10-Yard Split (1.54), Vertical Jump (37), Broad Jump (10′), 3-Cone (6.72), 20-Yard Shuffle (4.25), Bench (N/A)

Too slow in the back pedal. Not straight on the line. Bend is fine. Trying to keep eyes up but swerving. Needs to bend better. Play speed not there. Not covering a ton of ground. Not impressed.

Craig Woodson (Cal)

Measurables: Height (6-0 1/8), Weight (200), Arm Length (30 1/2), Wingspan (75 1/4), Hand (8 3/4)

Athletic Testing: 40-Yard Dash (4.45), 10-Yard Split (1.53), Vertical Jump (36), Broad Jump (10’7″), 3-Cone (N/A), 20-Yard Shuffle (N/A), Bench (13)

NFL Draft Stock Report: East-West Game

Eyes up. Pedal good speed. Bending well. Quick turns. Play speed nice. No real complaints. Overall just really solid. Nice catches. Feet got caught under him during Teryl Austin. Happened twice. Solid box drills.
