Trading Jason Robertson is stupid. If the Stars were smart, they would figure out a trade to bring the other Robertson brother to Dallas. Nick Robertson is just sitting there for the taking, and the Stars should take advantage.
Robertson, 23, wasn’t part of the playoff rotation for the Leafs. He’s also been angling a way out of Toronto for what seems like a long time. I don’t think there’s any secret that he can be had as an RFA again this offseason.
We also know the Leafs are trying to change the make up of their team this offseason. Mitch Marner is going to walk for free, and Toronto will shift its focus towards adding more grit and toughness.

He comes with a reasonable $4.5 million AAV and can be dropped in the Leafs’ lineup as a depth winger with the DNA of the exact type of player they’re looking for.
For Dallas, Nick Robertson represents exactly what they need. A depth winger who can produce while also saving cap space. Plus, acquiring both Robertson brothers probably helps make life easier in extending Jason…
It makes too much sense not to happen. Pick up the phone, Jim Nill. I’m not sure what you’re waiting for on this one.
