Following the Week 1 win over the New York Giants, Owner Jerry Jones told the media that a contract extension for Dak Prescott was “imminent.” It has been 2 weeks since then and the contracts have reached an “impasse.” However, the Cowboys remain confident that they can reach a deal with the 4th year quarterback.

Dak, on the other hand, is proving that he is worthy of a big payday. During the first two weeks, his stats are those of a top 5 quarterback. He has completed 51 out of 63 passes, good for 83.2% and 674 yards, to go along with 7 touchdowns to only 1 interception. Both games were against divisional opponents, the New York Giants in Week 1 and the Washington Redskins in Week 2. All this while only being sacked one time between both weeks.

Throughout his 4 year career with the Cowboys, Dak has played in every regular season game. Accounting for 1,026 completed passes while attempting 1,537, good for 66.8% and 11,550 yards, adding 74 touchdowns to 26 interceptions. He has also tacked on 1,025 rushing yards and 18 rushing touchdowns. Prescott has led the Cowboys to the playoffs twice in the past 3 seasons, going 1-2. In those games he completed 66 out of 103 passes good for 64.1%, 794 yards, 5 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. While adding 2 rushing touchdowns.

The 26-year-old was the 2016 Offensive Rookie of the Year, and was selected to the 2016 NFL All-Rookie Team. He has been selected to two Pro Bowls, one in 2016 and one in 2018. Most recently Dak was selected as the NFC Offensive Player of the Week for his Week 1 performance against the Giants. Throwing for 405 yards, 4 touchdowns, and 0 interceptions on 25-32 passing good for 78.1%. Most importantly he has lead Dallas to a 2-0 start. Both wins being in the division. And is looking towards 3-0, with a Week 3 matchup against the lowly 0-2 Miami Dolphins.

The pressure is on in Dallas, despite the big paydays given out, the organization remains confident in getting a deal done. Should Prescott continue playing at such a high level the team will surely pay the franchise quarterback. The real question they are asking themselves is not if but when. Only time will tell in Dallas.
