Jaxson Dart 2025 NFL Draft Profile

Is the hype on Jaxson Dart legitimate? I assume that’s why you’re here and it’s what I’m here to talk about, so can we both agree to end this charade of intro paragraphs? Let’s get right to the 2025 NFL Draft profile on the Ole Miss quarterback!

NFL Draft Stock Report: Week 5Week 6Week 7Week 11Week 13Week 14Gator Bowl, Senior Bowl (1), (2), (3), Game

Dart, 21, was featured in the Stock Report notes plenty this year. If you scroll through them, you will notice a pretty consistent theme. It won’t take you long to figure out that I’m going to be a negative Nancy on this one. Feel free to read the weeks when he played LSU and Florida. They may make you vomit. The game against Georgia where they won, I’d argue backup Austin Simmons looked far better in the brief time he was out there. Ole Miss beat South Carolina 27-3 and Dart threw zero touchdowns and barely completed 50% of his throws.

Long story short, if you go through the Stock notes, I give you plenty of ammo on why you should be out here on any day one or two conversation here.

The Ole Miss quarterback checks in at a tick over 6-foot-2, 223, and was a four star prospect out of high school in the state of Utah. I think people may forget about this part but Dart actually got his collegiate start at USC. I’ll give you the SparkNotes version; Clay Helton gets sacked after a 4-8 season, Dart throws nine touchdowns and five picks, and he quickly bolts once it becomes obvious Caleb Williams is about to steal his lunch money. If you’re not a fan of Caleb Williams but are in on Dart, just know you make zero sense based on how events transpired in college.

Look, the positive here is that Dart kept getting better under Lane Kiffin once he got to Ole Miss. His completion rate spiked from approximately 62%, to 65%, to 69%. The passing yards, yards per attempt, and touchdown marks all got better too. Not denying that this is a player who is some bum that doesn’t work hard. That’s probably not the case here.

I do, however, think it’s ok to really analyze the production. Are we sure he’s the best quarterback on the Ole Miss team? Wait until you see Austin Simmons this year. Also, I know people want to pretend Lane Kiffin isn’t a good coach but there’s no denying he helped Dart out big time this year. A lot of his production was gift wrapped over on a platter scheme wise. It’s hey, put this defender in conflict, if he goes here this ball goes up the seam. Dart was essentially a teacher’s pet. He did what Kiffin told him to do. It’s not a knock. Bo Nix was that for Sean Payton this year. I just think we have to understand that there are smoke and mirrors within the production itself.

I see a guy who played in a very friendly system when things weren’t perfect for him, he was slow instinctively, and made horrific mistakes when the first read wasn’t there for him.

That sort of leads us to the predraft events. Was I being too harsh on Dart throughout the year? Was I giving Kiffin too much credit despite somehow missing the college football playoff with that defensive front? If I saw things wrong, surely that would be on full display at the Senior Bowl and Combine.

Let’s make no mistake about it. Tyler Shough was the best quarterback at the Senior Bowl. When it comes to the Combine, it’s pretty obvious Dart is flawed in a lot of ways. That write-up with the link in the previous sentence tells you everything you need to know. I go over everything, all of his characteristics from a movement skill perspective. I’ll say this, too. It gave me a lot of PTSD and flashes on a player I was right about years ago

I really worry about this player. Not like I’ve been trying to hide it. The rushing upside comparison to Jalen Hurts is just silly. Dart doesn’t have nearly that same level of power in his arsenal. He can certainly run and pick up the sticks with his legs, but he also took a sack on 18.6% of his pressured dropbacks. We’re not talking about some alien who is a lightning rod in the run game. Dart can move, but he’s not out here saving you in this area.

Comp = Kenny Pickett with shades of Mitch Trubisky mixed in. I have a 6th to 7th round grade on Dart and am willing to take him as a semi-mobile backup, but am well aware the draft politics have entered the picture, and he won’t be on the board when I’m ready to pick him.
