Xavier Legette 2024 NFL Draft Profile
Xavier Legette is the next wide receiver on the list to talk about. The 2024 NFL Draft is flooded with wide receiver talent. Legette is one of many who fit that mold. Let’s jump right into his 2024 NFL Draft profile and talk about the former South Carolina wide out.
Former four star recruit coming out of the state of South Carolina. Checks in at 6-foot-1, 221. Has basically zero production outside of last year. Truly a one year wonder. Has 42 total receptions during the first four years of his career at South Carolina. Always been athletic but things finally clicked for him in 2023. To end his career with the Gamecocks, Legette posted 71 receptions for 1,255 yards and seven touchdowns.
I truly don’t say this lightly but his mannerisms are the closest thing we have seen to DK Metcalf since the man himself. Muscular athletic frame. Good pipes on him. Has that size, weight, speed element to his game. Running a 4.39 with his muscle mass is damn impressive. Hit 40 on the vert too. Really good leaper and plucker of the football.
Was mentioned in the stock report notes this year. Had a very good game against Georgia, which is usually a pretty good indicator. Very good performance when you consider South Carolina was undermined and he still got his. Has a knack for making great circus catches with his radius. Like stupid good plucker with the catch radius. Spencer Rattler was a total mess and no matter the ball placement he’s just catching the ball. Something to it. Has a bit of a monster freak feel to him. Had a horrible showing at the first day of the Senior Bowl but rebounded nicely in the days after. Chalk it up to nerves?
He can be a bit stiff sometimes but overall a good route runner. Liked what I saw at the Combine for the most part outside of dropping a few balls. Primarily an outside receiver. Plus speed on the outside too using his leverage. Played there most of the time at South Carolina. Underrated in the return game. Can do it and good at it. Play speed is really good too. Can see him moving well and it’s not hard to spot. Hasn’t been the most durable guy.
Not a big YAC guy either. For a guy built like that, it’s a bit surprising. Will we see him grow more into that type of guy?
I would take Xavier Legette in the third round. Has the potential to be one of those freak monsters but his lack of production concerns me. How long is it going to take to get him going at the NFL level? Think he can play and still has room to grow. How much is 2023 the new version of him or has he tapped out? Tough question to answer without more information on the person.
