Charlie Baker, NCAA President, Wants To Remove Prop Bets For College Athletes

The amount of gambling over the years has ramped up over the years where almost everything can be bet on these days. You can actually bet on ferret bingo believe or not, don’t ask me how it works, let’s stay on topic here. Gambling has grown so much that you can bet on everything and it might infect the integrity of the game. Especially in the shady world that is the NCAA, betting could be dangerous when betting on certain players and whatnot. Charlie Baker, the NCAA President has noticed this and is trying to prohibit prop bets for college athletes. Full quote provided by CBS Sports:

“Sports betting issues are on the rise across the country with prop bets continuing to threaten the integrity of competitions and leading to student-athletes and professional athletes getting harassed,” NCAA president Charlie Baker said in a statement. “The NCAA has been working with states to deal with these threats and many are responding by banning college prop bets.

“This week we will be contacting officials across the country in states that still allow these bets and ask them to join Ohio, Vermont, Maryland and many others and remove college prop bets from all betting markets,” Baker continued. “The NCAA is drawing the line on sports betting to protect student-athletes and to protect the integrity of the game — issues across the country these last several days show there is more work to be done.”

I actually agree with this. Now, I’ve been known to dabble into gambling myself from time to time, but I usually only bet on the professional athletes for prop bets. The NCAA already has a reputation of being dishonorable in the past. Trying to prevent the worst when it comes to the integrity of the game is a great idea. Good on NCAA President Charlie Baker for trying to nip this in the bud now.
