Anthony Gould 2024 NFL Draft Profile
We’re getting into the weeds at the wide receiver position. Up next for the 2024 NFL Draft Profile series is Oregon State wide out Anthony Gould. Let’s get on with it and talk about what you need to know about the former Beaver.
This is a gadget guy. I don’t know who needs to hear that but that’s what you’re getting. Kick returns, punt returns, trick plays. That’s who he is. Ball in space let him run. That’s all this really is. I could close the post out here because that’s the long and short of it.
Gould basically has zero production as a receiver prior to last year. He has 40 total receptions in 2021 and 2022 combined. Last year became a much bigger focus of the passing attack reeling in 44 receptions for 718 yards and two touchdowns. Wasn’t used as much as he should have in the return game. Likely because Silas Bolden is just a better overall player than him. Bolden is not in this draft class but that’s the truth.
Really small but fast gadget guy. Checks in at 5-foot-8, 174. Ran a 4.39 at the 40 with a 39.5 inch vertical. I didn’t note much from him at the Combine other than pointing out the fact that he returned a punt for a touchdown at the East-West Game.
What Isaiah McKenzie does in terms of returning kicks and creating plays for him in space is your best hope for Gould. The only difference is McKenzie played at Georgia. Are you willing to trust an Oregon State guy with those same duties? Pretty decent athlete that I wouldn’t mind signing as an undrafted free agent to see if he can help in the return game. That’s about all you’re really looking at here.
