What If Richie James Is The Hidden Fantasy Superstar On The Chiefs?

What if Richie James is the hidden fantasy football superstar on the Chiefs’ offense? Are we sure we can just write off this possibility? (Vincent Carchietta-USA TODAY Sports)

What If Richie James Is The Hidden Fantasy Superstar On The Chiefs?

The Chinese farmer is real and maybe we’re all looking in the wrong place. I think that possibility exists. Fantasy football leagues are won and lost by finding that hidden gem in the explosive offense. A couple of years ago, that was Deebo Samuel, who Trey told you to go draft. If we’re trying to find a piece of that Chiefs’ offense, what if the correct answer is actually Richie James?

Before you scream, I’m on record for saying that my answer is Justyn Ross. The dumb people probably think Skyy Moore is somehow still a thing even though nobody listened when I correctly tried to tell you otherwise last year. Maybe Kadarius Toney could be that guy but he’s never on the field. Rashee Rice is just a rookie and Marquez Valdes-Scantling is a pretty known commodity at this point. We know what MVS is and it ain’t it.

You’re not going to find Richie James listed on any fantasy list but maybe he should be. James, 27, was a bit of an unknown coming out of college after playing for Middle Tennessee. However, he’s starting to establish himself as a little bit of a lightning rod at the NFL level. It was a slow build for James in San Francisco but he got extended playing time for the Giants last year in a weak WR room in New York. The numbers while playing with Daniel Jones look okay… (57 receptions for 569 yards and five touchdowns).

It doesn’t tell the whole story though. James converted on pretty much every chance that was thrown his way. Again, with Daniel Jones throwing him the ball, James had a 81.4% catch rate. Compare that to Darius Slayton who was below 65%.

Are we starting to get it now? What if James has a larger opportunity in Kansas City with Patrick Mahomes? Nobody is saying the guy is Tyreek Hill but he’s built like him. James checks in at 5-foot-10, 185, and runs a 4.48. Why can’t James be a poor man’s version of Hill in this offense?

Weirder things have happened before in fantasy football. We have all been heartbroken by some fantasy football karma god cheese when it comes to this sport. Jerick McKinnon had NINE receiving touchdowns last year. Is it impossible that James does that?

I think this is a name we have to keep in mind. If he becomes a thing in Kansas City, nobody should be surprised.
