If you read my fantasy football post on Dalvin Cook, then you probably know by now that I have no idea what to make of the New York Jets this season. Heading into the 2023-24 NFL Season, the Jets feel like a wildcard team to me that could go in 100 different directions. With that in mind, I think everyone knows the kryptonite of this team and it’s the fact that their offensive line stinks. You can’t help but point the finger at Mekhi Becton.
Can we just be honest about this? Mekhi Becton is a bust. Did anybody else see the clip from the most recent episode of Hard Knocks? Robert Saleh isn’t even trying to hide it. He knows the offensive line is a problem. Mostly because the big boy Becton can’t figure it out.
Blame it on whatever you want. Bad knees, too fat, overstated talented, etc, etc. The bottom line here is that he’s clearly behind the other first round tackles from that 2020 NFL Draft. I just want to know why Joe Douglas has a job in the NFL when I had this right? I gave the Jets an F for drafting Becton and look where we are today.
I also had Andrew Thomas as the best tackle in that draft class. Did you see the check he just got? Joe Douglas didn’t have a choice in that matter though. Instead, he still made one of the most egregious decisions in the draft taking Becton over Tristan Wirfs. Explain to me how you keep your job after that call. I just gotta know.
We can see it coming from a mile away. Somehow, someway, it usually always goes wrong for the Jets. The signs are right in front of us. Becton is a bust and Douglas got snaked in the draft when New England let Pittsburgh leap in front of the Jets for Broderick Jones. Does anybody else remember the Jets war room panicking when that happened? Again, please tell me how a team that employs 40-year-old Aaron Rodgers fails to put a quality offensive line in front of him. Better yet, why does that guy get to keep his job?
This Becton thing is done. I said it back then and I’ll say it again. You’re best case with this thing was always going to be Bryant McKinnie. Except he’s probably not even that good. The worst case scenario, in reality, has struck. He’s never on the field. It’s hard to imagine him ever turning it around based on the fact that he’s too big as it is. How does his knees get better as he ages?
