Vendetta Sports Media 2023 NFL Mock Draft: Madden Results
Better late than never right? Before the actual 2023 NFL Draft, some of the writers here at Vendetta got together and held their own mock draft. Each writer controlled their own team and some trades even went down. Then yours truly steps in, puts the rookies on the teams our writers drafted for and run a Madden simulation. I would’ve liked to have had this done before the actual draft, but it is what it is. No sense in beating around the bush anymore, let’s get to the Madden results.
1. Carolina Panthers (Matt Hanifan) – Bryce Young, QB, Alabama
Stats: 4,688 Yards, 36 TDs, 18 INTs, 65% COMP, 98.5 Rating
Solid start for Young. Carolina has a lot of holes to fill, especially at the receiver position. Young could cut back on the interceptions, but that could improve over time.
2. Houston Texans (Jack Sabin) – CJ Stroud, QB, Ohio State
Stats: 4,649 Yards, 30 TDs, 19 INTs, 65% COMP, 95.2 Rating
Very similar to Young’s stats. Both are in similar positions of rebuilding teams. Solid nonetheless.
3. Indianapolis Colts (Julian Casciano) – Anthony Richardson, QB, Florida
Stats: 4,533 Yards, 35 TDs, 8 INTs, 73% COMP, 117.3 Rating
Wow. ROTY honors and a playoff appearance for Richardson. Rushing numbers weren’t anything to write down really, but with passing like this who needs to run?
4. Arizona Cardinals (Trey Daubert) – Will Anderson Jr, EDGE, Alabama
Stats: 71 TAK, 15 TFL, 9.5 Sacks
What an absolute stud of the edge. Anderson is a freak athlete who can fit in with literally any team in the NFL. Can’t wait to see how his career develops. (NFC DROY)
5. Seattle Seahawks (Garrett Burroughs) Jalen Carter, DT, Georgia
Stats: 64 TAK, 19 TFL, 4.5 Sacks
Carter was an absolute run-stuffer as a rookie. What more could you ask from the guy? Carter also showed a good ability to get after the QB.
6. Detriot Lions (Darrell Staley) – Tyree Wilson, EDGE, Texas Tech
Stats: 60 TAK, 19 TFL, 3.5 Sacks
Another run-stopper. Wilson can also get after the QB. Pretty good picks so far, let’s see who the first will be to pick a bust.
7. Las Vegas Raiders (Chickster) Christian Gonzalez, CB, Oregon
Stats: 97 TAK, 4 TFL, 3 INT, 4 DEFL
What an animal. Gonzalez was all over the place in his rookie season. Not much else to say. (AFC DROY)
8. Atlanta Falcons (Kam Moos) Nolan Smith, EDGE, Georgia
Stats: 41 TAK, 10 TFL, 2.5 Sacks
The numbers aren’t eye-popping, but Smith is a solid player. Maybe higher than what he should’ve gone, but a player Atlanta couldn’t go wrong with.
9. Chicago Bears (Matt) Peter Skoronski, OT, Northwestern
Stats: 10 Sacks allowed
Not a great rookie showing by Skoronski. The Bears O-Line was just bad in general and with Skoronski giving up the third most sacks on the team (RIP Justin Fields).
10. Philadelphia Eagles (Chad Bauman) Bijan Robinson, RB, Texas
Stats: 161 Carries, 748 Yards, 8 TD, 20 REC, 225 Yards, 2 TD
Because of Philadelphia’s recent trade for D’Andre Swift, Robinson had to split carries. Robinson still led the team in rushing yards and attempts and was solid overall. I’d say this was pretty high to draft Robinson in the first place, but he went even higher in real life.
11. Tennessee Titans (Julian) Paris Johnson Jr, OT, Ohio State
Stats: 10 Sacks allowed
The first two OTs of our 2023 NFL Mock Draft have underperformed. Johnson gave up the second-most sacks on the team, but only by one.
12. Houston Texas (Sabin) Myles Murphy, EDGE, Clemson
Stats: 60 TAK, 10 TFL, 2 Sacks
The edge rushers in this draft so far have been amazing. Murphy continues that streak here with Houston.
13. New York Jets (Garrett) Broderick Jones, OT, Georgia
Stats: 5 Sacks
Better than the first two tackles taken for sure. The Jets did not perform to expectations after trading for Aaron Rodgers, but that O-Line did a decent job of protecting him.
14. New England Patriots (Chickster) Jaxon Smith-Njigba, WR, Ohio State
Stats: 38 REC, 577 Yards, 3 TDs
This is what happens when you have Mac Jones as your QB.
15. Green Bay Packers (Kam) Zay Flowers, WR, Boston College
Stats: 105 REC, 1,572 Yards, 14 TDs
I want to preface this by saying that Jordan Love did not do this. At some point early in the simulation, the Packers picked up Teddy Bridgewater. Still, sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesh. (NFC OROY FYI)
16. Washington Commanders (Sabin) Joey Porter Jr, CB, Penn State
Stats: 82 TAK, 4 TFL, 2 INT, 5 DEFL
One of my favorite prospects of the draft. Only two corners have been taken off the board in our 2023 NFL Mock Draft, and both have been studs.
17. Buffalo Bills (acquired from Pittsburgh) (Trey) Kelee Ringo, CB, Georgia
Stats: 29 TAK, 2 TFL, 0 INT, 2 DEFL
Can’t say the same for the third. Although, it feels like Ringo was stuffed at the bottom of the depth chart. Good prospect, just not his year.
18. Detroit Lions (Darrell) Jordan Addison, WR, USC
Stats: 78 REC, 964 Yards, 9 TDs
Addison found a spot for himself in the hierarchy of receivers in Detroit. With Goofball at QB, this is pretty good.
19. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Julian) Devon Witherspoon, CB, Illinois
Stats: 75 TAK, 3 TFL, 2 INT, 4 DEFL
Just another CB that is all over the field. I have mixed feelings when it comes to Witherspoon, and I don’t fully believe he will develop like this in real life. But the defensive players (for the most part) in this draft have all been Day 1 stars. What is in the water giving them these superpowers?
20. Seattle Seahawks (Garrett) Hendon Hooker, QB, Tennessee
Stats: 3.460 Yards, 26 TDs, 13 INTs, 60% COMP, 86.5 Rating
Yeah, Hooker didn’t play great in this Madden simulation. That offense is decent enough to where if one of the earlier QBs had gone here, I feel like they would’ve done a much better job than Hooker.
21. Los Angeles Chargers (Kam) Darnell Wright, OT, Tennessee
Stats: 11 Sacks allowed
Justin Herbert did not get sacked many times, but when he did, it was most likely by someone that just steamrolled over Wright. I honestly think the Monstars have sapped all the playing ability from the tackles taken in our 2023 NFL Mock Draft.
22. Baltimore Ravens (Trey) Bryan Bresse, DT, Clemson
Stats: 39 TAK, 8 TFL, 3.5 Sacks
Pretty good numbers for a rookie DT. The Ravens still need CB help, but a nice addition to the roster.
23. Minnesota Vikings (Matt) Deonte Banks, CB, Maryland
Stats: 100 TAK, 3 TFL, 1 INT, 7 DEFL
Yet another CB that was just all over the field. What a pick here by the Vikings (at least in Madden).
24. Jacksonville Jaguars (Chick) Dawand Jones, OT, Ohio State
Stats: 2 Sacks allowed
Finally, we have an OT that can actually play. Good job Jacksonville. Blond Jesus is grateful for you.
25. New York Giants (Darrell) John Michael Schmitz, OC, Minnesota
Stats: 5 Sacks allowed
Not bad honestly. Could’ve done worse.
26. Dallas Cowboys (Sabin) Dalton Kincaid, TE, Utah
Stats: 100 REC, 1,026 Yards, 11 TDs
Here is a doozy of a (Madden) stat for you. Dak Prescott had four receivers go for over 1,000 yards receiving. Kincaid ranked fourth in yards. Who ranked fifth? Tony Pollard with 27 yards.
27. Pittsburgh Steelers (acquired from Buffalo) (Garrett) Brian Branch, S, Alabama
83 TAK, 4 TFL, .5 Sacks, 1 INT, 8 DEFL
Pittsburgh gets another stud safety. Man was literally all over the field.
28. Cincinnati Bengals (Trey) O’Cyrus Torrence, OG, Florida
Stats: 0 Sacks allowed
Nasty. Joe Burrow was sacked just 12 times on his way to a Super Bowl win. What a steal at 28. Best offensive lineman of the Vendetta 2023 NFL Mock Draft hands down. He was video game-like … literally.
29. New Orleans Saints (Chickster) Lukas Van Nees, EDGE, Iowa
Stats: 45 TAK, 8 TFL, 7 Sacks
Solid numbers from a pick this late in the draft. Sack numbers are encouraging too.
30. Philadelphia Eagles (Trey for Chad) Trenton Simpson, LB, Georgia
Stats: 89 TAK, 2 Sacks, 1 INT
Simpson held it down in the middle of the field. Not bad.
31. Kansas City Chiefs (Matt) Quentin Johnson, WR, TCU
Stats: 62 REC, 818 Yards, 8 TDs
The rich get richer. I hate it here.
