Tyler Warren 2025 NFL Draft Profile

What’s that smell? The party pooper smell? Trey, you mean to tell me the odds of a generational tight end prospect emerging in back-to-back years are incredibly low? You don’t say! If you haven’t picked up on the vibe by now, you will in a hot minute. Without further delay, here is your 2025 NFL Draft profile on Tyler Warren!

Warren, 22, was a high school quarterback initially, but was recruited as a three tight end during the 2020 cycle. The Mechanicsville, Virginia, native was the 21st ranked tight end and 13th ranked player in the state. Checking in at 6-foot-5, 256, with under 32 inch arms, spent all five years with Penn State.

The former Nittany Lions tight end took three full years to really get going. There’s basically next to nothing to work with for three straight seasons including a redshirt to start things out. In 2023, Warren was Third-team All-Big Ten Conference, but that also includes ceding starting reps to Theo Johnson. Warren was essentially the secondary tight end behind Johnson, producing 34 receptions for 422 yards and seven scores.

Let me pause and recap with this. I thought he was better than Theo Johnson when they were on the same team. It just wasn’t a sizeable gap between the two. Then the 2024 breakout campaign happens, which includes a boatload of accolades including winning the John Mackey Award, Second-team Associated Press All-American, Big Ten Conference TE of the Year, and First-team All-Big Ten. The guy was so good he actually got real Heisman votes.

Warren was the ultimate chess piece for Penn State. He was their best receiver and lined up all over the place. He was legitimately out there snapping the football and scoring a touchdown in the same rep. Throwing touchdowns, playing fullback, etc. If you can think of it, Warren probably did it this past year. Yes, even wildcat snaps. He’s also a real tight end in the sense that he is an in-line Y and able to fill that function.

No Combine here, but you have plenty of stock notes to read through. Really good at high pointing balls. We saw that plenty in the playoff. They lose the USC game without him. Tough and more than willing to block.

Again, I like Warren. He did a lot of great things last year. I just think we have a case of people being too horny for what Brock Bowers did without remembering that Bowers is the best tight end I’ve ever seen. A guy who couldn’t fully seize the job from Theo Johnson probably isn’t anywhere close to that tier. I don’t think that should be a hard concept to understand.

I think Tyler Warren is a round 2-3 player and should probably go in the same range that Mike Gesicki and Pat Freiermuth went in the draft. It sure feels like people lost their minds on this one just a little. I don’t see blue chip top ten potential. If you think this is the next Brock Bowers, I think you’re an insane person.
