Top 5 Coaches On The Hot Seat Entering The 2023 NFL Season
*Honorable mention: Todd Bowles (Tampa Bay Buccaneers)
I think we all understand Todd Bowles by now. Really nice defensive mind. Has zero capability to be a head coach. It’s not just that Tom Brady retired. This team has looked like a mess in general since Bruce Arians stepped down. Bowles sports a record of 34-50 and almost blew the division last year during Brady’s final season. Tampa has zero expectations heading into 2023 and they still have a somewhat strong roster in a bad division. That’s a problem.
5: Bill Belichick (New England Patriots)
We have already started to hear these reports. I would argue that this should have happened already. Belichick is still a great on field head coach. That doesn’t change the fact that he’s lost it. His roster moves make no sense, he can’t draft a lick, and appears totally lost when it comes to modern offensive football. On paper, the Patriots look like a last place team and are hoping and praying that Bill O’Brien makes a difference. It really might be the last we see of Belichick.
4: Josh McDaniels (Las Vegas Raiders)
McDaniels was a loser in Denver and this Raiders experiment isn’t going much better. The Raiders won six games last year and Derek Carr got hit with the blame pie. Now that Carr is gone and off to New Orleans, if McDaniels doesn’t win he’s the one on the chopping block.
It’s also hard to buy into anything that McDaniels is building. They are trying to build Patriots north except with all the weirdness and none of the brilliance. If the Raiders stink again, McDaniels could be gone. It already feels like this Jimmy G experiment is a ticking time bomb.
3: Dennis Allen (New Orleans Saints)
Speaking of guys that never win, hello Dennis Allen! The Saints won seven games last year and Allen sports a career coaching record of 15-38. The NFC South is terrible. If Allen stinks it up again, he’s gotta go. Too many losing seasons of proving you’re not a capable head coach. It’s blatantly obvious the Saints miss Sean Payton even if he was insane to take the Denver job.
2: Ron Rivera (Washington Commanders)
Rivera is 22-27-1 in Washington and just appears outdated. He’s also coming off a season where this happened.

Washington has new ownership now and if Rivera doesn’t impress, it’s hard to imagine he sticks around. Maybe Eric Bieniemy does enough to get promoted for the job?
1: Brandon Staley (Los Angeles Chargers)
I don’t understand how Staley hasn’t been fired already. He probably should have after that embarrassing playoff loss to Jacksonville. I genuinely don’t know what Staley brings to the table. The Chargers have essentially wasted Justin Herbert’s rookie contract. What’s the excuse here other than Dean Spanos being too cheap because that’s exactly what it seems like from the outside.
