After a long awaited process, Daniel Snyder has sold the Washington Commanders for a whopping $6.05 billion. Snyder has sold the Commanders to Josh Harris, co-owner of the Philadelphia 76ers, Mitchell Rales, and NBA legend Magic Johnson. Via Sportico.
Harris is a boss in the sports ownership empire. He is currently a co-owner of the Philadelphia 76ers and the New Jersey Devils. He is also a minority owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers, so now he will add another NFL franchise to his arsenal.
Any sale of an NFL franchise will go through the NFL’s finance committee and approved by 24 out of 32 (3/4) of the league’s franchise owners. The owners are scheduled to meet in Minneapolis, Minnesota this May during the Spring League Meeting. Via NFL Press Release.
Snyder, along with his wife Tanya, has been the owners of the Washington franchise for around 24 years. All the way back to 1999. Snyder held Bank of America Securities in November 2022 to explore of a potential sale of the Washington Commanders.
When selling the Commanders, Snyder, the controversial owner, expected a price of $6.05 billion would be estimated after conversion the highest in NFL history. Right now, the New England Patriots have an estimated value of $5.88 billion. After the Patriots, only three more teams are worth $5 billion or more, including the New York Giants, San Francisco 49ers, and the Chicago Bears.
