K’Lavon Chaisson is regarded as the 2nd best edge defender in the 2020 NFL Draft. After Chase Young, it’s a bit of a mystery when it comes to finding edge rushers. K’Lavon Chaisson is really the only other first round prospect in the group. Let’s break down the LSU product’s 2020 NFL Draft profile.

Chaisson is a player I’m having a tough time figuring out. He screams boom or bust to me. There are certain games where Chaisson jumps off the screen. Then you can’t find him for an hour. One thing that worries is that Chaisson sort of reminds me of Barkevious Mingo coming out. It’s one of my biggest misses. I loved Mingo coming out. Chaisson looks exactly like him. Maybe that’s not fair but it’s hard to ignore.

The thing that makes it so hard was his pass rush efficiency. Chaisson made a ton of splash plays, but he didn’t do it that often. The LSU pass rusher recorded 35 pressures on 370 pass rushing snaps. That’s really not great. However, you have to do more digging here. Chaisson entered the season coming off a torn ACL. It took him some time to really get in a groove. He ended the season with 4 sacks in his last 5 games. The run Chaisson went on during the National Championship games was SCARY.

Maybe I’m a sucker for the all-tools team. Chaisson has IT. Bend around the corner, high twitch, good in the run game, athletic in space. Yet, he ranked 41st in the draft class in win rate (14.1 percent). Next Gen stats at NFL.com doesn’t like Chassion either. Chaisson has multiple pass rushing moves too.

Chaisson is a tough code to crack. Teams will really have to do their homework on this one. Chaisson has the talent to be a double digit sack guy for a long time. He could also be the next Barkevious Mingo. Which side of the coin are you leaning?
