Ryan Poles Continues To Prove He’s An Idiot After The Montez Sweat Trade

Ryan Poles Continues To Prove He’s An Idiot After The Montez Sweat Trade

“Oops, I did it again” – Brittany Spears. Also, Ryan Poles.

I can’t wrap my head around the fact that this idiot really did it again. One year ago, Poles gave up a second round pick for Chase Claypool. A trade that turned into a total disaster. One year later, this idiot somehow kept his job and the organization allowed him to make the same exact mistake again. This time it comes in the form of Montez Sweat. The Bears gave up ANOTHER second round pick for Sweat.

I shouldn’t even have to explain why this is a terrible trade… but I will anyway.

A: Sweat is a free agent in March.

B: The Bears have over $100 million in cap space.

C: Why wouldn’t you just wait to bid on Sweat in free agency rather than giving up a draft pick now for him?

D: The Bears have two wins. Two. If anything, this move helps them win more games which shouldn’t be the goal for this current season.

E: Poles has now made three trades involving a second round pick. He sent Roquan Smith (the best player out of this bunch) out of the building for the lowest value second rounder coming from Baltimore. He gave away the first pick in the second round for Claypool. He’s now given away a pick in the 30’s for Sweat who has never had double digit sacks in a season. Why didn’t you just pay Roquan again?

F: Poles has given away all leverage in a contract. Sweat’s agent has all the power in negotiations.

G: Poles did not get an extension worked out as part of the trade. There is a non-zero chance they lose Sweat for nothing in free agency. If you’re Washington, why not trade to re-sign him back in March?

H: Poles has now reduced the return on trading down from the number one overall pick. A trade that he already lost based on the trade chart. A trade down that looks even worse given the fact that they passed on Jalen Carter when he could have transformed a defensive line that ranks 32nd in sacks.

I: The Bears are the only team at the trade deadline with a below .500 record to give away draft picks at the deadline. The only one. When Poles calls, rival teams can’t answer the phone fast enough.

J: Chase Young went for a compensatory third rounder. About a 60 pick gap from what the Bears gave up in this deal.

I genuinely can’t believe the Bears haven’t taken away the keys yet. Ryan Poles is and will always be a complete dope. Poles is the worst GM in the league and I’m not sure it’s arguable.
