Of Course, Joe Douglas Deserved To Be Fired

The Jets fired Joe Douglas today and it was 100% the right call. Of course, Douglas deserved to be fired. The problems with the Jets start with ownership and that part can’t be ignored. However, it’s also impossible to defend Douglas who botched pretty much everything he touched.

What exactly did Douglas get right with the Jets? It’s a very small list. The Seahawks were dumb enough to overpay for Jamal Adams. I’d also argue that if anyone was paying attention, the Jets had to get rid of Adams so I’m not sure Douglas really deserves a ton of credit for it.

Because of the Adams trade, the Jets were able to land Sauce Gardner, Garrett Wilson, and Breece Hall in one draft class. Something I gave Douglas credit for at the time too.

The problem is that’s the only thing Douglas got right during his 5.5 seasons with the Jets. I mean the ONLY thing he got right.

I could go on all day here mocking Douglas. His list of mistakes are literally endless. They range from minor ones like overpaying George Fant to suck to picking Zach Wilson with the second pick in the draft. The moment Douglas picked Mekhi Becton over the other top tackles in that draft like Tristan Wirfs should have been the moment the guy got burned at the stake. I can literally show 100 examples of why Douglas sucked at his job. So I’ll post a few below with no hindsight bias included.
