George Pickens Explains Why He Doesn’t Want To Block
George Pickens has the ability to be the best-blocking wide receiver in the entire league. Something I tried to stress a bunch when Pickens was coming out of Georgia. He just doesn’t want to do it anymore. Probably because he’s already told you how sick and tired he is about this Steelers offense.
We all saw it this past week against the Colts. The former Georgia product isn’t giving it his A effort in the blocking game anymore. It’s more of an F effort.
“I didn’t want to get injured,” Pickens said, via Joe Rutter of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. “When you stay in and block somebody, you can get run on very easily.”
“Everybody is mad when you lose,” Pickens said. “A lot of media guys want to say it’s my frustrations, but it’s losing. I’m pretty sure everyone is mad, not just me.”
Pickens, of course, references the Tank Dell injury as a reason why he didn’t want to block.
Hot take incoming… I don’t blame the guy. If you’re going to start Mitch Trubisky in an NFL game in the year of 2023, I’m not blocking either. It is what it is. You can judge the guy all you want but it’s embarrassing that any NFL team is starting Trubisky right now. Notice how he already got benched in favor of Mason Rudolph (who also stinks).
I knew Trubisky stunk 10 years ago. If the Steelers can’t figure it out now, there is no hope for that team. I’ll defend Pickens for not putting his body on the line. Why should he? Not for this team. No way.
