George Pickens Explains The Secret Sauce Behind His Dominant Blocking

George Pickens is already one of the best blocking wide receivers in the NFL. Want proof? Name another wide receiver that’s doing this on a consistent basis. I’ll wait.

It’s one of the many reasons why I listed Pickens as the WR one of the 2022 NFL Draft. Just your friendly reminder that Pickens wouldn’t be on the Steelers if Trey was in charge of one of these teams. I can promise you that the former Georgia product goes before pick 52. It’s still embarrassing that Pickens went 52 and that bum Drake London went eight, but that’s a story for another day.

Back to the blocking, Pickens revealed the secret as to why he’s so good at it. The secret is there is no secret. Pickens is just angry. That’s it.

“I’m big, I’m fast, low 4.4 [speed],” Pickens told Kevin Clark of TheRinger.com. “Catch radius is crazy. So every time I get out on the field, I do kind of play angry because I should get the ball on every play if you just look at the size and the frame. If I was a coach, I’d just throw to him every time.

“But that’s not how the NFL works. So every time I’m out there, that’s why I throw the blocks. I love getting the ball, and when I’m not getting the ball I play angry so the attention is back on me. I basically draw attention to myself.”

Heed the warning. The breakout is coming. After notching 52 receptions for 801 yards and four touchdowns as a rookie on a bad offense with a rookie quarterback, can you imagine what’s coming in 2023? Stay tuned.

I don’t know about you but I love my receivers to be big, fast, and angry. You’re going to want to hop on this bandwagon now before it’s too late.
