Matt Brown Retires From MMA
UFC veteran Matt Brown has announced his retirement from MMA. “The Immortal” was a pioneer of MMA and spent 16 years in the UFC.
Brown announced his retirement in a series of posts on X.
The final fight of Brown’s career went down at UFC Charlotte in May of 2023. In that bout, he earned a knockout victory. At 43, he decided not to step into the octagon again.
Brown is one of the longest-tenured fighters in the history of the promotion. In 16 years, Brown had 30 UFC fights. In the promotion, he went 17-13. More importantly, his fighting style captivated fans and he quickly became a loved figure among hardcore MMA fans.
The UFC record books are filled with Brown’s name. In the UFC, Brown has 13 knockouts, putting him second all-time behind Derrick Lewis. The pair have battled for the top spot for several years, but Brown’s retirement ensures Lewis’ record is safe. Additionally, Brown has the most finishes in welterweight history. This was all accomplished against stiff competition.
It seems like Brown will remain an active member of the MMA community throughout his retirement. “Immortal Martial Arts Center”, Brown’s gym, is home to several professional fighters. On the media side of things, Brown is a part of MMAFighting‘s podcast “Writer vs Fighter” and he plans to start his own.
Regardless of how his future in MMA plays out, Brown has cemented his legacy as a fan-favorite fighter who played a role in helping MMA grow as a sport.
