The Red Sox haven’t done much this Winter. Their biggest acquisition thus far has been on the pitching side of things. Walker Buehler is the big add through free agency after inking him on a one-year deal. It remains to be seen what else Boston does this offseason but manager Alex Cora seems thrilled with adding the former Dodgers starter.
“This guy, I think he’ll be perfect for us,” Cora told WEEI’s Rob Bradford on the “Baseball Isn’t Boring” podcast. “(He’ll) bring that persona to where we play — not afraid of the big stage — and being around some people that’ll be Hall of Famers, right? He comes from an organization that they do it right. I texted some people that we know and they were like, ‘Yeah. Yeah, you’re gonna love him.’”
Cora added: “Those guys were Kiké (Hernández) and Joe (Kelly). They were like, ‘Yup. Yup. He’ll be OK up there. He’ll be OK.’ So, excited about him.”
The Craig Breslow and Cora pairing hasn’t exactly been sunshine and roses all the time. Right now their in an internal war over whether it’s a good idea to sign Alex Bregman or not. It’s fairly obvious that Cora wants Bregman to join the club but Breslow is hesitant about the idea. That seems to be the biggest mystery for Boston before the start of Spring Training.
Oh, and the fact that Vladdy Jr. sort of, kind of, made his intentions clear that he wants to sign with Boston. Why hasn’t that trade gotten done yet? Asking for myself because the front office is too incompetent to actually do something smart.
