Akame Ga Kill: Anime Review And Rating

I had just finished Akame Ga Kill, so it’s fresh in my mind. My brother talked very highly of this show, saying it was a top 3 anime in his list. With my top 3 currently being Attack On Titan, Naruto, and Death Note, I had to see if the hype was truly there. I went into this show with big expectations and while it wasn’t a top 3 anime for me, it is a very solid anime.

Although one of the main characters is named Akame, she is not THE main character. The main character of the show is Tatsumi, a boy from the countryside looking for work in the Imperial City to raise money for his village. He went to the city with some money to survive but however, it was stolen by an attractive woman. This causes Tatsumi to live on the street until some royalty decides to take him in to her home. From there, some notorious bandits called Night Raid attack this family and slaughter them. When Tatsumi makes a shocking discovery about the family that took him in, he leaves with the bandit group called Night Raid for an unforgettable adventure for change in their world.

Most of what I described was the first episode and I was committed to watching it as soon as I can. The anime was only 24 episodes long so I finished it within of week of my free time. My only real complaint was I felt like this anime was too short. They definitely had moments where they could have developed the story a little bit more. To make up for that though, almost every episode had action in it and the fight scenes were great. It is quite sad for a lot of the anime and that is something you don’t find common, as sadistic as it sounds, I loved that about this anime. There was a realistic measure among death that most animes don’t stick to.

Rating: 8.5/10

As mentioned, the story could have been explained slightly better amongst other elements they implemented in the anime. 50 episodes would have been a sweet spot as far as story-telling and action. However, this anime was still solid. 8/10 seems too low for this anime and 9/10 seems too high, I think 8.5 is a great rating for this anime. I don’t think it is top 5 considering how much I like Promised Neverland and High-Rise Invasion so far(check out those reviews), but I definitely think it’s close to my top 5. I recommend Akame Ga Kill that can be found on Netflix for sure.
