My Hero Academia: Season 1 Anime Review

My Hero Academia is one of the newer animes that has came out. Debuting in 2016 in Japan, My Hero Academia has been well received by fans of anime new and old. In fact, I started watching Naruto as a new anime fan and My Hero was the 2nd anime I have ever watched. So, this is the first anime I will review which will be done by season. Here is my review on Season 1 of My Hero Academia.

The story takes Japan but in a more supernatural world. The people in the world have evolved to where they have this thing called Quirks. For comparison, this is their power they have. Not everyone is born with a quirk but most people in the world (I believe the anime says 85%, don’t quote me). With Quirks, there are Heros that protect the people in the world, and of course, you have to have villains if you’re going to have Heros. Our story brings us to our Main Character, Izuku Midoriya, a super hero fanboy. Izuku was born without a Quirk but still has the dream of becoming a hero.

In Season 1 of My Hero Academia, Midoriya is trying to get into the Hero school called U.A. High School. All people that go to that school have a Quirk, making it unlikely that Midoriya gets to go. However, in Season 1, an unexpected turn of events happens for Izuku Midoriya.

Rating: 7/10

I tried to not say too much about the anime and story itself because I would HATE to spoil anything for the readers and people that have not watched it. I will say that Season 1 is slow, but much needed to get a real vibe for the world and story progress. You MAY end up hating Midoriya in this season, he’s a crybaby and you’re just like “dude just shut the fuck up and stop crying.” It does get better after this season. This is a great starter anime for those new to anime itself. I would rate season 1 as a 7/10. The story gets way better after this. If you’re not a fan of this after the first season, just stick with it. Trust me.
