The 2024 NFL Draft is in the books. Now is the fun part. The Summer content-wise will mostly be dedicated to fantasy football and those 2024 rookie rankings are vital towards your drafting success. Today we’re doing the quarterback rankings so enjoy them.
In years past I used to just do a combination of redraft and dynasty. This year I’m going to separate them. Probably better to do it this way. Here are the VSM 2024 Fantasy Football Rookie Quarterback Rankings!
5: Drake Maye (Patriots)
Excluding Michael Penix Jr. from this list, Maye feels like the other quarterback that won’t see the field for a long time. They gave Jacoby Brissett a decent paycheck and they actually like him. New England drafted Brissett many years ago and they really wanted him back.
I’d guess Maye doesn’t see the field for awhile. In fact, I’m not sure he plays a singular week this year. We have to remember that Maye’s development curve was all messed up because of COVID. He didn’t play as a senior in high school and then sat another year at UNC behind Sam Howell. Even if Maye sees the field late in the year, it’s not exactly a fruitful roster to work with. For this year in redraft, don’t spend resources on Maye. This thing is going to take time.
I think he has zero value in redraft. Chickster thinks otherwise.
4: JJ McCarthy (Vikings)
I’d guess McCarthy gets on the field sooner than Maye but Sam Darnold will still likely start out of the gate. The situation is a good one with the Vikings but McCarthy still needs work in terms of developing. Maybe he’s a spot start in a superflex league down the stretch but that’s best case.
3: Bo Nix (Broncos)
Betting Bo Nix to win ROY might be the best bet that’s out there. To understand fantasy football, we first have to understand real football. This thing is going to work to some degree.
Why did Russell Wilson fail with Sean Payton? That answer is some combination of Wilson being washed along with the fact that he’s always been an off script player. Sean Payton wants to play quarterback. He wants his guy to do exactly what he’s being told. Nix will do that. He got the ball out quick and often behind the line of scrimmage at Oregon. Nix will have some value as a QB2 in leagues where the league’s rules aren’t built for fifth graders.
2: Jayden Daniels (Commanders)
This might sound crazy but I expect Daniels’ career to be eerily similar to RG3. Out of the gate, he’s going to pick up fantasy points via his legs. Daniels didn’t just win the Heisman last year with LSU. He was also basically their starting running back too.
If you read my draft profile on Daniels, you know I’m not overly high on him. One of those reasons is because he’s a total moron and loves getting railed. Guy has no idea how to slide. Anthony Richardson had more self awareness in the run game than Daniels and has a much bigger body than Daniels and his entire rookie season was derailed by injury. That scenario exists with Daniels too.
Ride it until you can. For redraft, the rushing might be too hard to pass at first. Plus, he’s older and probably will be what he is as a rookie. Chickster has a good write-up on this as well.
1: Caleb Williams (Bears)
This is easy. We know how real the talent is. Instead of going on a long winded rant that isn’t necessary, I’m going to drop my draft profile here and Williams’ fantasy profile done by Chickster here.
10: Michael Pratt (Packers)
He’s the backup QB with the Packers now. If that’s something you value, knock yourself out. Everything I wrote about Pratt during the predraft process can basically be described as JAG. He’s there and looks like a regular person playing football. If that gets you going have fun.
9: Jordan Travis (Jets)
Maybe Jordan Travis will become the Jets starter down the road. I’m just not sure I’d count on it for longer than a cup of coffee. He’s a 10% better version of Desmond Ridder. Can run a little but he probably peaks at a high end backup like Tyrod Taylor.
8: Joe Milton (Patriots)
Patience is obviously going to be needed. This could turn into nothing. It just very well may be worth the shot down the line. His arm strength is generational. That’s just a fact (peep his profile here). If the lightbulb ever goes on for him, he’s got a chance. I have him ranked higher in the real life rankings but fantasy wise he’s going to be free by the time that chance he’s good ever happens.
7: Spencer Rattler (Saints)
Total knucklehead and I’m out on him. The only positive here is that Derek Carr is Derek Carr. If he can find his way into the lineup, there is value. As soon as that happens, sell him for whatever you can.
6: Michael Penix Jr. (Falcons)
If you have been reading the site you know that I think Penix lowkey stinks. His lower body stuff is going to be an issue. I would have picked Penix in the 5th round of the real draft. Now in Atlanta, you’re going to have to hold onto him forever until you hope to get anything out of him. The only reason he’s this high on the rankings is because Atlanta was dumb enough to take him 8th overall so you know he’s going to get a chance at some point. Hanifan wrote up his fantasy profile here!
5: Jayden Daniels (Commanders)
Long term? I don’t want any of this stock. I just don’t think he’s that good. The rushing will hold up for a good chunk of time but this idea that Washington got their QB of the future… I’d bet against it. Chickster has other ideas and I’ll link that here.
4: Bo Nix (Broncos)
People need to put more value into this and they never do. It’s coaches, players, and scheme. Players are one third of the equation and fail more often than not because of poor environments. Nix has the other two things working in his favor. What’s more important is that Payton is passionate about working with Nix and that matters. Long term, Nix has value as a depth starting QB on your roster.
3: Drake Maye (Patriots)
Now we’re starting to cook. Long term, I love Maye’s potential. Love might be a strong word but he’s got the tools to become a real starting quarterback with upside. His brain short circuits three times a game that will hold him back but eventually he should be a real player. Chickster wrote up his dynasty profile here.
2: JJ McCarthy (Vikings)
Vikings fan Hanifan wrote up this profile for fantasy. I’m a McCarthy believer. Deal with it. I love that he got Kevin O’Connell, who I legitimately think is an awesome coach. Buy the long term stock here. He will bring more rushing upside than you think too.
1: Caleb Williams (Bears)
What more is there to say? We know how real the talent is. I’ll revert you to what Chickster wrote up for his dynasty profile.
