2023-24 Vendetta Premier League Power Rankings: Preseason

The 2023-24 Premier League season is about to get underway and the Vendetta Sports Media team will be bringing you our power rankings throughout the season. Jackson Fyda, Trey Daubert, Christopher Bagdonas, Jarrod Prosser and I, Jerry Walker, will be ranking our teams from the relegation spots to the champions. After an eventful summer transfer window (thanks Saudi Arabia), the 20 Premier League teams are looking different and ready for the season. So in the words of Fabrizio Romano “Here we go” with our first edition of the power rankings.

20. Luton Town

Average: 18.8

(Jerry 19, Jackson 20, Trey 20, Bagdonas 18, Jarrod 17)

Luton Town was promoted last season from the EFL Championship completing an amazing journey from non-league football to the Premier League in 10 years. They could be in for a rude welcome to the Premier League as the smallest club in the league. The Hatters have brought in a few players but none that look to really turn them into a side that appears to be staying in England’s top flight. — Jerry Walker

19. Sheffield United

Average: 18.4

(Jerry 17, Jackson 18, Trey 18, Bagdonas 20, Jarrod 19)

Similarly to Luton Town, Sheffield United have not made any major additions to their newly promoted side. Unfortunately for Paul Heckingbottom and Sheffield United, they lost their second-highest goal scorer Iliman Ndiaye to Marseille. It is going to take some luck to stay up and not bounce back down to the Championship. — Jerry Walker

18. Bournemouth

Average: 17.4

(Jerry 20, Jackson 19, Trey 15, Bagdonas 14, Jarrod 15)

Bournemouth was flirting with relegation last season, and this year looks to be more of the same. While the club has added players like Hamed Traorè, Justin Kluivert and Max Aarons, Bournemouth is still likely to struggle this year. Expect them to be in the relegation battle. — Jackson Fyda

17. Nottingham Forest

Average: 16.6

(Jerry 16, Jackson 17, Trey 17, Bagdonas 17, Jarrod 16)

Nottingham Forest survived the relegation battle last season but could be dragged back into it this year. With the only key signings being USMNT goalkeeper Matt Turner and Anthony Elanga, along with bringing Chris Wood back permanently following his loan spell last season, it could be a long season. — Jerry Walker

16. Everton

Average: 16.2

(Jerry 15, Jackson 14, Trey 19, Bagdonas 19, Jarrod 14)

Everton narrowly avoided relegation last year. Sadly for Sean Dyche, it looks like Everton is going to be in a relegation battle yet again. Signing only Ashley Young and Arnaut Danjuma is not enough to give us confidence that this Everton squad will be any different than last year’s. Expect Everton to be scrapping at the bottom of the table yet again. — Jackson Fyda

15. Burnley

Average: 15.8

(Jerry 18, Jackson 16, Trey 16, Bagdonas 16, Jarrod 13)

It is always interesting to see how a newly promoted team transitions to the Premier League. Some falter, while others shine. Burnley has had a good summer transfer window, bringing in quality players like Sander Berge, Jacob Bruun Larsen, Nathan Redmond and James Trafford. Vincent Kompany looks like he has something going at Burnley, and if things click, Burnley has a realistic shot at comfortably avoiding the drop — Jackson Fyda

14. Wolves

Average: 14.8

(Jerry 13, Jackson 15, Trey 14, Bagdonas 12, Jarrod 20)

After a mid-table finish last season, Wolves took a blow in the transfer window losing Rúben Neves to the Saudi Pro League. The additions of Matheus Cunha and Boubacar Traoré have Wolves looking to be set for another season of mediocrity. — Jerry Walker

13. West Ham

Average: 13.8

(Jerry 14, Jackson 11, Trey 13, Bagdonas 13, Jarrod 18)

After winning the UEFA Conference League title last season, West Ham have gone and lost their star player, Declan Rice. While the move to Arsenal was not surprising, what is surprising is that they have not really invested any of the record fee to rebuild the squad. ‘The Irons’ have only brought in one player in the form of Edson Álvarez. After losing Rice, it now looks like West Ham might lose another key player from last season’s team in Lucas Paquetá — Manchester City have made multiple offers for the Brazilian. Losing two key players is going to make it hard work for David Moyes. — Jerry Walker

12. Crystal Palace

Average: 12

(Jerry 11, Jackson 13, Trey 11, Bagdonas 15, Jarrod 10)

Losing Wilfried Zaha is a massive blow for Palace. Not only that, multiple big clubs are beginning to swarm for Michael Olise. Palace has finished between 11th and 14th place in the last five seasons. While Roy Hodgson wants to get Palace a top-10 finish this year, it is hard to see that happening. Realistically, Palace will finish in the bottom half but will have a decently comfortable space between them and the relegation spots. — Jackson Fyda

11. Brentford

Average: 11.4

(Jerry 12, Jackson 10, Trey 12, Bagdonas 11, Jarrod 12)

It will be interesting to see how Brentford does without Ivan Toney. Their star striker was handed an eight-month ban for gambling by the FA, meaning he will not return to the field until January. The Bees have had a solid Premier League stay since getting promoted in 2021. If they cannot find a way to replace Toney for the first half of the season, then Brentford could be in for a rough season. — Jackson Fyda

10. Fulham

Average: 10.6

(Jerry 10, Jackson 12, Trey 10, Bagdonas 10, Jarrod 11)

Fulham had a really impressive 2022-23 season that saw the Cottages fighting for European places until suffering a late-season slump. Still, a 10th-place finish is nothing to balk at for a newly promoted team, and Fulham will be hoping they can improve on last year’s finish. Raúl Jimenez and Calvin Bassey are good additions to a squad that is returning its core group of players. While it may be unrealistic to expect Fulham to be competing for European places again, it would not be a massive shock to see Fulham have yet another good season. — Jackson Fyda

9. Brighton

Average: 8.4

(Jerry 9, Jackson 8, Trey 8, Bagdonas 9, Jarrod 8)

Brighton had an incredible 2022-23 Premier League season that saw the Seagulls finish in sixth place. However, the club lost Leandro Trossard last January and Alexis Mac Allister this summer. Moises Caicedo might also leave soon. While Roberto De Zebra’s squad will still be dangerous, do not expect them to be as good as last year’s Brighton squad. Still, though, Brighton has some ballers, and with De Zerbi at the helm, all things are possible. — Jackson Fyda

8. Chelsea

Average: 8.2

(Jerry 6, Jackson 9, Trey 9, Bagdonas 8, Jarrod 9)

This one will be interesting to watch. Chelsea has had a mass exodus this summer, a new manager in Mauricio Pochettino and a plethora of new signings. After a terrible 2022-23 season, you would expect the Blues to be better off this year. However, it might take Chelsea a few more years until they are consistently in the top four again. While Chelsea could very easily have a great season, it will take time for the new players to gel and for Pochettino to instill an identity at the club. Plus, with Christopher Nkunku out for months, someone else is going to have to step up. Expect improvement from Chelsea, but do not expect them to push for the Champions League, let alone the league title. — Jackson Fyda

7. Tottenham

Average: 7.2

(Jerry 8, Jackson 7, Trey 7, Bagdonas 7, Jarrod 7)

The big question ahead of the season for Tottenham was would Harry Kane be staying? It has now become official that Spurs’ all-time leading goalscorer will be heading to Bayern Munich; it will be interesting to see who steps up. The addition of James Maddison from Leicester is a good start, but they will need Heung-min Son to return to his 2021-22 form and Richarlison to put his horrendous debut season behind him. It is going to be an interesting start for newly hired manager Ange Postecoglou. The Australian has won trophies everywhere he has gone and may be the one needed to end Tottenham’s trophyless drought. — Jerry Walker

6. Aston Villa

Average: 5.8

(Jerry 7, Jackson 6, Trey 6, Bagdonas 6, Jarrod 4)

Aston Villa is legit. They had a great 2022-23 season that saw them qualify for European competition. That same squad now has Pau Torres, Moussa Diaby and Youri Tielemans. Unai Emery has Aston Villa cooking, and if Villa lives up to its potential, the Claret and Blue could have yet another impressive year ahead. — Jackson Fyda

5. Liverpool

Average: 4.6

(Jerry 5, Jackson 4, Trey 3, Bagdonas 5, Jarrod 6)

The loss of Sadio Mané was very noticeable last season and now Liverpool has lost a few more key players during the summer. They were part of the Saudi Arabian swoop, losing Jordan Henderson, Fabinho and Roberto Firmino to the Arab league. They did however make two big signings to help solve their midfield issues. First, they bought Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton for $46.11 million and then bought Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig for $76.86 million. The possible move from defense to midfield for Trent Alexander-Arnold has looked beneficial during preseason, plus having Mohamed Salah does not hurt at all. — Jerry Walker

4. Newcastle

Average: 4

(Jerry 3, Jackson 3, Trey 5, Bagdonas 4, Jarrod 5)

Where Chelsea has just thrown money to the wind and hope it sticks, Newcastle has invested its money with intent. Last year, the club brought in Alexander Isak, Anthony Gordon, and Nick Pope and found themselves heading to the Champions League. This summer Newcastle has only gone and upgraded their squad again by signing Harvey Barnes, Tino Livramento and Sandro Tonali. By competing in Europe, Newcastle will have to play extra matches, and a deep squad will help them stay competitive in England and abroad. — Jerry Walker

3. Manchester United

Average: 3.6

(Jerry 4, Jackson 5, Trey 4, Bagdonas 2, Jarrod 3)

While Manchester may be blue the last few years, Manchester United are looking to get back to winning ways. A year ago Man United finished third in the Premier League to get back to the Champions League. Erik ten Hag’s first season was a big success and he has brought in some more talented players this summer. The addition of Mason Mount, Rasmus Højlund and André Onana will bring a boost to the team. Losing some bad eggs in David de Gea and Harry Maguire will also help the team chemistry since they made some crucial mistakes for Man United last season. — Jerry Walker

2. Arsenal

Average: 2.2

(Jerry 2, Jackson 2, Trey 2, Bagdonas 3, Jarrod 2)

Arsenal has had a great summer transfer window. Declan Rice, Jurriën Timber and Kai Havertz have added incredible depth to Mikel Arteta’s side with goalkeeper David Raya also on the way soon. Arsenal had a great season last year and appears to have greatly improved this summer. The Gunners will be dangerous, but the question remains, will they be able to outdo Pep Guardiola and Manchester City? — Jackson Fyda

1. Manchester City

Average: 1

(Jerry 1, Jackson 1, Trey 1, Bagdonas 1, Jarrod 1)

The back-to-back-to-back Premier League champions completed the treble last season and look poised to repeat as Premier League champions once again. Despite losing Ilkay Gündogan and Riyad Mahrez over the summer, Manchester City replaced them perfectly. Bringing in Mateo Kovacic and Josko Gvardiol just adds more depth to an already stacked team. Erling Haaland could very well be the Golden Boot winner again and Kevin de Bruyne is still the best midfielder in the world. As long as Pep Guardiola is still managing, then Man City are going to be heavy favorites to continue their dominance. — Jerry Walker
