We know how this goes. People are always going to get their panties in a bunch over preseason football, when it largely means nothing when it comes to fantasy football. The hype machine is on full display for Tank Dell after one preseason game.
As you gear up for your fantasy football league, should the Texans’ rookie wide receiver be a priority in dynasty formats?
We already know Dell doesn’t have any value in redraft formats. If you’re slightly educated in fantasy football, you already know that to be the case. The Texans are really bad and the idea that a small wide out from Houston is going to be relevant right away is a ridiculous notion.
Long term for dynasty or keeper leagues, I don’t see how Dell has any value either. Please do me a favor. Provide me a list of all of the wide receivers that weighed 165 pounds that became fantasy relevant. I’ll wait. There is no need to wait. The list is basically zero.
People have made this mistake over and over again. Dri Archer was supposed to be good. Name any of those tiny Oregon guys that never panned out. Investing in small wide receivers is a dumb proposition that never works. DeSean Jackson was a different bread and is way bigger than Dell is.
Additionally, you will never know when to start this guy. He’s not good enough to roster in best ball. In lineup leagues, good luck figuring out the two weeks that Dell hits a home run ball.
Also, John Metchie is just the much smarter play if you’re looking to roster one of these guys on the Texans. Metchie is a superior talent and a former second round pick out of Alabama. If the medical stuff is behind him, Metchie is the guy you want to take the dart throw on. He’s also faster, bigger, and the same age. Why would anyone take Dell over Metchie and Metchie is already basically free in drafts.
Don’t be an idiot. Wasting a pick on Dell is a brain dead move that won’t pan out. His best case scenario is that he turns into a lightning rod player that you have no idea when to actually use. You’re banking on the home run ball that will probably come two or three times a year. Dell should be a hard pass even for dynasty owners. There are just way smarter gambles to take even later in drafts.
