We have a receiver related to Reggie Wayne in the 2023 NFL Draft? Yes! Let’s talk about the Jalen Wayne 2023 NFL Draft profile! (AJ Henderson / Sun Belt Conference)

Jalen Wayne 2023 NFL Draft Profile

South Alabama is putting another receiver into the NFL. Jalen Tolbert was the guy last year. The 2023 NFL Draft will feature Jalen Wayne. Does Wayne have the potential to be a top-tier receiver at the next level? Let’s talk about it in this edition of the 2023 NFL Draft Profile.

I talked about this some at the Senior Bowl and more so at the Combine. I’m just really not sure what there is to be excited about outside of the fact that he’s related to Reggie Wayne. If that didn’t exist, I’m not sure there would be any interest. I’m being dead serious when I say that.

I don’t think the guy sucks but there are flaws. Just looks like he doesn’t have any twitch. It was like he got the dirt slow genes from the Wayne family. When I saw slow, I more so mean quicksand in short area. The vertical speed (4.51) is more than fine. Just see too many times where he can’t chain movement skills together. Don’t see any dawg in the contested catch moments either.

The size is cool at 6-foot-2, 210 with over 32-inch arms. He also has some versatility playing tight end and running back as a freshman. Can you turn him into a jack of all trades guy? 2022 was Wayne’s best year after Tolbert departed catching 58 passes for 815 yards.

Wayne appears to be a smart player knowing when to settle in the pockets of the defense. Can catch. Also has a background playing special teams. You might be able to turn him into a big slot receiver like JuJu. That’s probably the ceiling here.

I have Jalen Wayne as an undraftable guy that you’re willing to invite to the preseason roster in case something more is here. That’s about all I’m willing to do here.
