We’ve seen how much Trey Daubert has complained about the Red Sox this year. A weak offseason has led to the team dancing around .500, but the team’s CEO thinks the team just isn’t meeting expectations.
President and CEO Sam Kennedy said on “The Greg Hill Show” that the season has had positives and negatives. He believes the core the Red Sox have is young and talented, and the performance we’ve seen doesn’t reflect that.
I don’t think we’ve overperformed,” Kennedy said on The Greg Hill Show. “I think, if anything, we’ve underperformed just given the talent and the competitiveness in that clubhouse.”

If Kennedy and the Red Sox want to complain about how the season has gone, they should take a long look in the mirror. Their offseason sucked, and it was a case of a big-market team being cheap over free agents.
Before Jordan Montgomery signed with the Diamondbacks, Kennedy said the team wanted him for the “right price.” One year and $25 million later, the Red Sox missed out.
Teoscar Hernandez was also on the team’s radar, but the Dodgers scooped him up on a one-year, $23.5 million deal.
Owner John Henry clearly wasn’t serious about this season either. He didn’t even show up to the team’s 2024 Winter Weekend, and it seems like he does this almost every year. He knows how the team is operating sucks, so his solution was to avoid the fanbase.
Even The Athletics Ken Rosenthal called out the Red Sox in January, saying the team isn’t trying to spend money. Between Blake Snell, Hernandez, Montgomery, or even re-signing Justin Turner who wanted to return would’ve helped this team.
There’s only been a couple of good moves the Red Sox have made. They extended Brayan Bello to a team friendly deal. They gave the same thing to young outfielder Ceddanne Rafaela.
Sorry not sorry, Trey, but this team has no direction. It seems like the team is banking on its prospects such as Marcelo Mayer, Roman Anthony and Kyle Teel. It’s hard to believe this team won a World Series six years ago.
