Gable Steveson signs with the Buffalo Bills

According to Adam Schefter and Steveson’s agent Carter Chow, the 2020 Olympic Gold Medalist Wrestler Gable Steveson has signed with the Buffalo Bills. He is signing the standard three-year rookie deal.

The move comes after Steveson was released from the WWE roster, where he had signed after he decided to stop competing in the World Senior Wrestling circuit. Steveson was arguably one of the biggest recruits coming out of Apple Valley High School in Minnesota, and decided to stay home for college and attend the University of Minnesota. He then turned in one of the most dominating heavy weight careers in college, winning two national championships as well as being a two time Hodge Trophy winner, the Heisman award for college wrestling.

Steveson won his Gold Medal in 2021 (watch the gold medal match here), securing two takedowns in the final ten seconds of the match to earn his stop in USA Wrestling royalty. He was signed to WWE for the 2024 Olympic Trials, and did not compete for a spot to represent the US in Paris for a spot to win back-to-back golds.

It is no secret Bill’s head coach Sean McDermott was interested in signing Steveson once he was released from his WWE contract, as the coach has a history with wrestling. The Bills intend on him playing defensive line as the 24-year-old was measured over 6 feet tall weighing 275 pounds.

The move may come as a bit of a surprise to some around the league as Steveson has never played football before, and focused on wrestling and never even wore cleats according to the ESPN report before his first Bills tryout.

He did not do this.

This is going to suck for me as a Jets fan and a USA / College Wrestling fan. He was great on the mat, and was one of the most dominant wrestlers and now he is going to be eating up my team’s shit offensive line. If this man hurts Aaron Rodgers I am going to lose my mind, but I will be rooting for Steveson every other time he steps on the field.
