Patriots Offered Steelers A First Round Pick For Antonio Brown

The New England Patriots are playing chess while the rest of the league is playing checkers. Getting Antonio Brown for free is a lot of smart chess. Stop being mad about it and just respect the greatness. Be mad at the teams that don’t know what they’re doing. Teams are so petrified of the Patriots that teams are now hurting themselves. Now that’s power.

During the Antonio Brown trade discussions this past offseason, the Patriots offered Pittsburgh a first round pick. The Steelers were so afraid of New England that they refused to trade him there. They settled for a third and a 5th round pick from Oakland instead.

ESPN’s Chris Mortensen, during “Sunday NFL Countdown” provided the details:

“As far as Bill Belichick goes, he’s always had an interest in Antonio Brown when he became available this offseason,” Mortensen said. “He actually offered a first-round pick to the Steelers. (Steelers general manager) Kevin Colbert wanted more but really didn’t want to trade him at all. He basically went on and took the third- and fifth-round (picks) from the Raiders.”

I’ve been saying this forever. Teams just have to take the best trade package. Stop worrying about other teams and do what’s best for you. I never understand why NBA teams do this. “Oh we can’t trade him within the East”? Why? It’s so fucking stupid. Pitt could have had a Patriots first round pick. Instead, they got less and he wound up on New England anyway. Take the best offer. I don’t care how much it stings. Guess what? Taking away the Pats first round pick would sting too.

I understand why the Steelers are petrified of the Patriots. The Patriots are 8-3 versus the Steelers, including a 3-0 record in the playoffs, when Tom Brady starts at quarterback. Half the reason why teams lose to New England is because they beat themselves. Pittsburgh absolutely did here. My guess is that New England wanted to take a receiver with that first round pick. It eventually turned into N’Keal Harry but I’m sure they preferred to trade it for Antonio Brown. Now they have both.

The funniest part is that these two teams square off in Week 1. Hey, at least the Steelers don’t have to play Antonio Brown this week. Brown will return in Week 2 and can’t play since he was released earlier in the week.
