Top 5 Sports Sell Outs In History

5. Johnny Damon

Damon went from Red Sox hero and fan favorite after their 2004 World Series run that broke the Curse of the Bambino to one of the most hated players in the city when he signed with the Yankees after the 2005 season. Instead of trying to continue to grow what the Red Sox did in 2004 Damon signed a four-year, $52 million contract and had to not only switch out his red socks for pinstripes, but he also went from cave man to sell out. Damon went on to help the Yankees beat my beloved Phillies in the 2009 World Series so I obviously hate him as much if not more than Red Sox fans. Sorry Johnny, but you make the list.

4. DeMarcus Cousins

Cousins was one of my favorite players when he was on the Kings. He has an old school gritty and tough player who was out spoken and just played like a bat out of hell. When he was traded to New Orleans I thought it was the start of something special with being paired up with fellow superstar Anthony Davis having one of the best one two punches in the entire NBA. Unfortunately, on January 26, 2018, he had 15 points, 13 rebounds and 11 assists before injuring his left Achilles in the final seconds of the Pelicans’ 115–113 win over the Houston Rockets. Following the game, he was diagnosed with a torn left Achilles, and on January 31, he underwent season-ending surgery. Anthony Davis then went out in the All-Star game wearing his fallen teammates jersey only for Cousins to leave New Orleans that summer to reining back to back NBA Champion Golden State Warriors. An ultimate betrayal by Cousins in his attempt to get a ring the easy way. We all know that the Warriors lost in the finals this year as Cousins has suffered a torn quad and a torn ACL this past season. Cousins is now on the Lakers with Lebron and is still searching for his first ring.

3. Alex Rodriguez

Alex Rodriguez started his career with the Seattle Mariners at the young age of 18 years old. The guy was a phenom at shortstop and he was able to play with some of the best to ever do it with Ken Griffey Jr, Edgar Martinez, and Randy Johnson. Honestly, this team could have been something special especially considering the Mariners were able to sign future Hall of Famer Ichiro the year A-Rod left Seattle for Texas for what was at the time one of the biggest sports contracts in history. Rodriguez signed a 10-year deal worth $252 million with the Texas Rangers. In Texas we saw A-Rod’s power numbers continue to sore, most likely because of all the steroids they have down south. Rodriguez later traded to the Yankees in 2004 where he would continue to hit dingers, take steroids, and sell out in search of a ring. He did win his first and only in 2009 as the Yanks beat the Phillies in 6 games. I hate you Alex.

2. Antonio Brown

If you haven’t seen the drama Antonio Brown has been stirring up this offseason then you’ve been in a coma. Brown was traded to Oakland for third- and fifth-round picks in the 2019 draft on March 9th. Obviously, he was initially ecstatic to be out of Pittsburgh due to his massive fallout with future Hall of Fame quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and the Steelers front office. Obviously, his excitement did not last long. Brown must have relished that the grass isn’t always green on the other side. Especially when you have an injury prone liability of a QB in Derek Carr throwing to you now. This summer we have seen Brown get frostbite on his feet from cryotherapy, file two grievances against the NFL for not allowing him to where his old helmet, threaten retirement, attack his GM, issue a tearful apology, and ask for a release. Well, he got exactly what he wanted because after he was released he immediately signed with the Patriots. SELL OUT!

1. Kevin Durant

KD was one of the most beloved NBA players in the world while he was with Oklahoma City, but that all changed after the Thunder lost to the Warriors in the 2016 Western Conference Finals after being up 3 games to 1. After the Warriors lost to the Cavs in game 7, KD hit the free agent market. It didn’t take long for him to join the same team that knocked him out of the playoffs the year before, the same team that had broken the record for most wins in a season with 73. Well, if you can’t beat them join them. KD will always be the biggest sell out of all time for this bitch move. He is mentally soft and will never win another championship in the NBA. See you in 2 years KD you’re gonna have to deal with JoJo and Ben now and guess what. Benny boy has a jumper…
