The Nick Chubb Contract Extension Is A Brilliant Move

I’m one of the most anti-running back people ever. I don’t think it’s very smart to pay a premium for a position that isn’t valuable. However, the Nick Chubb contract extension is a brilliant move that I am applauding.

While all the details about the contract aren’t out yet, I know enough to say that it’s a great deal. For starters, it’s a short-term deal and the Browns are far from paying Nick Chubb market-setting money on this new contract. The annual average value of $12.2 million over the three years of the contract makes Chubb the 6th highest-paid running back in the NFL. Chubb is only below Christian McCaffrey, Ezekiel Elliott, Alvin Kamara, Dalvin Cook, and Derrick Henry. Chubb is barely above Aaron Jones, and Joe Mixon. When comparing his price against the price of his peers, Chubb is an absolute steal.

Nick Chubb is simply disrespected, people seem to forget that he’s one of the best ball carriers in the NFL. Chubb consistently averages over five yards per attempt. Chubb’s career yards per carry is higher than anything Derrick Henry has ever done. Now just imagine if Chubb got the type of workload Henry had, he’d be breaking records. Chubb consistently finds the endzone despite having a lighter workload than other NFL backs, his 12 rushing touchdowns in 2020 can speak to that. The running game is incredibly beneficial to the Browns, and their style of smashmouth football may be making a comeback in the coming years.

I truly believe that this Nick Chubb contract was a good one for the Cleveland Browns. They aren’t tied to him for very long, and they aren’t paying a ridiculous premium for one of the premier running backs in the NFL. This is truly a win-win.
