Matthew Stafford Makes The Rams Super Bowl Contenders In 2021

After almost a decade of football irrelevance with the Lions, Matthew Stafford is getting his chance to shine with a contender at last. After a blockbuster deal that swapped Jared Goff and draft capital for Stafford, the Rams finally have the QB they wanted and Stafford finally has the chance he deserves. This move should put the NFL on notice – if the Rams made the Divisional Round with Goff at the helm last season, then surely they can make a deep run in the 2021 playoffs with Stafford under center.

An Already-Elite Defense Combined With An Improved Offense Make The Rams Super Bowl Contenders

The obvious place to start would be with Sean McVay. He managed to get Goff, a mediocre QB, to the Super Bowl just two years ago, so there is no reason he cannot do the same with Stafford and potentially even win it all. In addition, the Rams have a capable groups of WRs including Cooper Kupp and Robert Woods, which the Rams sorely lacked all of 2020. In Detroit, with Kenny Golladay often injured, T.J. Hockenson was the only solid player that Stafford had to target.

But the biggest reason that the Rams are 2021 Super Bowl contenders is still the team’s defense. Despite losing John Johnson and Morgan Fox in free agency, the Rams were able to re-sign Leonard Floyd and keep Darious Williams for another year. These retentions keep the Rams star-studded core including Jalen Ramsey and Aaron Donald together, and even after losing some players to free agency, the defense remains elite.

Sure, the Rams are in one of the toughest divisions in football, but they also have one of the best rosters, especially with the addition of Matthew Stafford. Not only is their defense elite, but their offense is just about there as well. The NFL better be on notice for the Rams, as they are set to make a deep playoff run in 2021.
