Why Mike Gesicki Will Be A Fantasy Football Star In 2021

After a career-best fantasy year for Mike Gesicki in 2020, he is going to take the next step forward and be a true fantasy star in 2021. His connection with Tua was solid last year, as he had two games with over 23 fantasy points (in PPR) when Tua was at the helm. With new receivers and a full season with Tua at QB, he is poised to produce big fantasy numbers in 2021.

New Offensive Weapons And Mike Gesicki’s 2020 Usage Will Help Him Produce Big Numbers In 2021

The no-brainer to start with would be the Dolphins drafting Jaylen Waddle with the 6th overall pick, who is an absolute perfect fit for the Dolphins. The Dolphins didn’t stop there, as they also signed Will Fuller in the offseason. Sure these receivers might eat up some target share, but even then, this addition works in Gesicki’s favor as Waddle and Fuller add to an already capable group of receivers that can stretch the field. This means that Gesicki can take the larger volume of underneath routes, meaning a larger target share and more volume in 2021.

But the biggest reason to be excited about Gesicki was his usage in 2020. According to Rotowire, under Brian Flores, Gesicki lined up in the slot 70% of the time and out wide 19% of the time, while only lining up in line for 11%. That means he spent about 90% of his snaps lining up as a receiver. I’m sorry, but if you can’t see the value there, then you need some help. Also, Gesicki was in the top 4 each of the past two years for average depth of target, which means he isn’t just a tight end who gets a lot of underneath targets. He can stretch the field just as well as anybody.

Right now, Mike Gesicki is one of the most underrated tight ends on draft boards. With the TE position being shallow at fantasy, it’s likely that the top 3 of Kelce-Kittle-Waller will go in the first three rounds. But if you want someone with upside to be in the same elite group as those 3, then adding Gesicki to your draft boards is a good idea.
