Jayden Reed 2023 NFL Draft Profile
Michigan State struggled this year but not because of their wide receiver. Jayden Reed is one of the most intriguing wide receivers heading into the 2023 NFL Draft but it’s difficult to gauge just how good he is given the dysfunction last year surrounding the Spartans. Let’s talk more about it in the Jayden Reed 2023 NFL Draft profile!
Reed impressed at the Senior Bowl which really put him on the radar. Even had the fastest play speed in one of the practices according to the zebra tech. Really impressive play speed going down the field. A 4.45 40 time is pretty good too. Not an extraordinary vertical (33.5) but he can run.
The route running is fine? Never blown away with his wiggle in short area. More of a vertical threat. Did make a good number of contested grabs in college but not sure how sustainable it is at the never level. If you’re expecting Cooper Kupp, you’re not getting anywhere close to that kind of artistry. Reed is undersized too at 5-foot-11, 187.
The production tracks for the most part. 2021 was a better year for Reed but that’s the case for the entire team. Reed notched 59 receptions for 1,026 yards and 10 scores as a junior. This past year, Reed hauled in 55 receptions for 636 yards and five scores. Given the ineptness of the Sparty offense, we’ll take that production. Reed was originally a three-star guy that committed to Western Michigan but clearly proved he’s got more juice than that.
On the whole, I have Reed as a later round receiver I’m willing to take a shot on. We’re talking 6th round and beyond. The return ability (three career punt returns for touchdowns) helps his case as well. I’m just not sure you’re getting more than a vertical deep threat that’s a WR4 on your roster.
