Dorian Thompson-Robinson 2023 NFL Draft Profile

Dorian Thompson-Robinson, AKA DTR, is my real late round X-Factor for this upcoming draft. If anybody in this draft is going to become the next Jalen Hurts, isn’t it DTR? That being said, there is going to take some projection with this one. Let’s get right into the Dorian Thompson-Robinson 2023 NFL Draft Profile!

There are major red flags here. Some of which I’m just not sure can be overcome. The accuracy issues are still very real. DTR played at the East-West game and struggled big time. At the combine, DTR was air-mailing throws like it was his job. The real problem is that DTR transitioned to quarterback in high school. He’s still learning how to play the position. That could be viewed as a good thing or a bad thing. The last time I was in on a guy who transitioned late was Sam Darnold and he just never got that linebacker out of him.

Mechanically, he’s still a mess. DTR has a weird wind up and far from a uber quick release. His processing speed is too slow too. Again, still learning to play the position. If you’re in on DTR, it has everything to do with the raw traits that will one day flourish.

The arm strength is really good. Has the pure whip to get the job done. A 4.56 time shows you the kind of athlete that is in there. DTR has 28 career rushing touchdowns and is absolutely a threat in that regard. Has enough size at 6-foot-2 and has a 4-star recruiting background. Also received an invite to the Elite 11 camp where he showed well for the most part.

Also very encouraging that DTR took a major step forward in terms of production in 2022. He stopped missing more of those layup throws and increased his completion percentage to 69.6 this past year. The USC game was everything you wanted to see and more. Still, there was more than one occasion where DTR took the cheese and threw the ball right to a defender dropping in coverage. The landing spot is going to be crucial for this one.

At the end of the day, I’m higher on Dorian Thompson-Robinson than most. I have a 5th round grade on DTR. Someone worth the ticket of admission but still plenty of work to do. The upside is untapped and there could be hidden starter potential down the road if all things go well.
