Howie Roseman Says It’s A Priority To Extend Jalen Hurts
Jalen Hurts led the Philadelphia Eagles to a Super Bowl berth last season and is set to cash in on his success from 2022 in a big way. With Hurts set to become a free agent in 2024, Eagles GM Howie Roseman declared that extending Hurts is a priority. When speaking to the media during the 2023 Owners Meetings, he would tell reporters that he wants to ink Hurts to a long-term deal.
“It’s no secret that sometime relatively soon we want to extend our quarterback,” Roseman said, via Dave Zangaro of NBCSportsPhiladelphia.com. “Our whole kind of roster building is going to turn a little bit here from a quarterback on a rookie deal towards hopefully a quarterback on a long-term deal.”
“We want him here long-term. It’s going to be a priority for us to extend him,” Roseman said, via Josh Tolentino of the Philadelphia Inquirer. “You have to navigate the offseason understanding that we’re not going to lose our franchise quarterback with one year left on his deal.” Full quote via PFT via nbcsports.com.
The word “duh” first comes to mind when the topic of extending Jalen Hurts comes to mind. You wouldn’t want to extend your franchise quarterback who took major strides in his game last season, big enough strides to lead your team to the Super Bowl? The entire city of Philadelphia might burn to the ground if Roseman lets Hurts walk. Not only would they lose Hurts, but it sounds like they would also lose AJ Brown as well. Losing Hurts would be the worst-case scenario for the Eagles, and would likely cost Howie Roseman his job if we are being honest.
