The Bills are in cap hell and are forced to let a number of players walk in free agency. Gabriel Davis is among those players and he’s quickly found a home in free agency. The former UCF product has signed a three year deal with Jacksonville.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network was the first to report the news:
The Jaguars have been busy in free agency. They already traded for Mac Jones to be the backup quarterback. Now they add another receiver to the mix. The only problem is that probably means Calvin Ridley is gone. The Jags wide receiver core next year will consist of Davis, Christian Kirk, and Zay Jones.
When you think about it, maybe this was by design. If the Jaguars re-signed Ridley, they would have had to cough up a better draft pick to Atlanta. Maybe that played into the thinking here and made them opt for Davis. Maybe not but I wouldn’t discount the possibility. You can read more on the trade conditions with this link.
Davis, 24, spent the first four years of his NFL career with Buffalo after being drafted in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft. During that time the new Jags receiver has posted 163 receptions for 2,730 yards and 27 touchdowns. Time will tell if he can put up even better numbers in Jacksonville. However, that won’t be easy after not having Josh Allen on his side anymore.
Comment below. Will Davis perform better with Trevor Lawrence in Jacksonville?
