Raiders Add Christian Wilkins To Mega Contract
Christian Wilkins got PAID! He didn’t just get paid. He somehow found a way to leave the Dolphins while also remaining in a tax free state. Wilkins is signing a massive deal with the Raiders on the first day of free agency.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network was the first to report the news:
This contract isn’t exactly cheap. $110 million with roughly $85 million guaranteed basically puts him right at the top of the market in terms of defensive tackles. This is very much Chris Jones type of money. Then again, the Raiders needed someone like this and if you’re going to spend that chunk of change, it should be for a player like this.
Wilkins, 29 this upcoming season, recorded nine sacks a year ago as an interior player. Obviously, a really good number for any defensive tackle. He’s also a monster against the run. Miami ranked 7th in the NFL against the run last year and Wilkins had a lot to do with that.
With Miami in cap hell, they simply couldn’t afford to bring Wilkins back. At this price point, the Dolphins never really stood a chance of retaining him.
Wilkins earned this payday. There is no question about it. He’s a blue chip player and should turn out to be a really nice addition. Maxx Crosby certainly will be happy to have him on his side. Now, maybe the Raiders wouldn’t have had to pony up this kind of money if they just picked Jalen Carter a year ago, but that’s another topic for another day.
