Do The Packers Want To Get Rid Of Aaron Rodgers?
Has Aaron Rodgers played his final game in a Green Bay Packers uniform? What if they actually prefer that to be the case? An interesting report has surfaced that Green Bay actually prefers to get rid of Rodgers via trade this offseason.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter had the details:
“An offseason trade of Aaron Rodgers remains an option for the Green Bay Packers for a variety of reasons, league sources told ESPN.
“A scenario that once seemed unthinkable, a Rodgers trade could be driven by financial reasons, the state of the Packers franchise and ultimately the feelings of the team and the star quarterback.“
“League sources believe the franchise prefers to move on from Rodgers, just as it once did with Brett Favre. Those sources also believe that Rodgers is well aware of the Packers’ feelings on the situation.“
It sure sounds like the Packers are ready to pass the keys to Jordan Love. History seems to be semi-repeating itself here. I certainly do not view Love as nearly the talent that Rodgers was coming out of the draft. However, he has finally started to show some signs of life. Really small sample size but Love looked semi capable in 2022. The former Utah State product completed 66.7% of his throws on 21 attempts including one touchdown and a 112.2 rating.
Rodgers, 39, carries a massive cap hit that’s simply complicating everything. I can’t figure out why he decided to sign another deal to say. Rodgers is due $59.5 million in guaranteed money this year and another $49.25 million in 2024. How do you even move that type of money? Get ready for a bumpy ride. This offseason is going to be quite the rollercoaster for Rodgers and a number of other quarterbacks including Tom Brady, Lamar Jackson, Derek Carr, and Jimmy Garoppolo.
