Deshaun Watson: ‘Bears Never Once Talked’ To Me Prior To 2017 NFL Draft

Deshaun Watson: ‘Bears Never Once Talked’ To Me Prior To 2017 NFL Draft

Listen, I would have had this blog post up sooner but I spent the last 8 hours plus trying to fix an image issue on the site. You don’t even want to know the story. Talk about some serious cheese. I wasn’t going to be able to sleep until I got it done. Luckily I figured it out. WordPress plug-ins can’t shake me. Hell of a birthday present to me no less.

Anyway, Deshaun Watson is in the news. The Bears decision to draft Mitch Trubisky isn’t one that’s ever going away. Recently, it was suggested that the Bears brass was racist and opted towards Trubisky, the white quarterback. I’ll link the flurry of tweets below.

Later this soundbite also came out.

I’m not going to try to speculate what happened. I’m just here to lay out the facts. All I know is that Deshaun Watson was head and shoulders the cleanest quarterback prospect in the 2017 NFL Draft. That guy wasn’t going to miss. Watson just had eyes in the back of his head in college. He was can’t miss good.

Mitch Trubisky, on the other hand, was garbage. Listen, I get making mistakes in the draft. I’m not right all the time (but at least 90 percent on draft prospects). It’s ok to make mistakes. It’s another thing to just be an idiot. If you thought Trubisky was going to make it, you just didn’t know how to scout. In the range of outcomes, there was a 0 percent chance the former North Carolina quarterback was going to be a quality starter. NONE. I had him as a 6th round prospect.

Again, I don’t know what happened. I wasn’t in those meetings. I will however say that there might be something here. Two things I can remember.

A: Watson held a grudge towards the Bears since day 1.

B: I find it odd that John Fox didn’t know who the Bears were picking until they were on the clock.
