More and more athletes are entering the podcast space. After Patrick Beverley trashed Chris Paul on ESPN today, Beverley has already caught the eyes of many. Dave Portnoy wants him at Barstool bad. So much so that Beverley has been offered a blank check to sign with Barstool Sports.
“Pat Beverley. If Pat Beverley, Which I doubt he’s a Barstool fan. But if Pat Beverley is a Barstool fan and he’s watching this, he has a blank check. You name your price for a podcast and we will hire you. No questions asked. Just say how many zeros and guarantee us once a week and you are hired.”
Portnoy’s full thoughts can be seen on the most recent episode of the Rundown:
This was as predictable as it gets. I just knew the second I saw Beverley’s clip somebody would come calling. Beverley has the perfect personality for it and would probably be really good at it. Draymond Green already has a show for The Volume Sports run by Colin Cowherd. It would not be surprising to see Beverley ink a talent deal with Barstool or another network.
Beverley, 33, is still under contract for next season with the Minnesota Timberwolves. Beverley will always have that role as the grit guy on any roster. He’s never going to be a lights out shooter but you need one guy like that on your team. Those guys just matter.
The truth of the matter is, Beverley has an opinion and he’s not afraid to share it. That’s half the battle with any of these athletes getting into the sports media space. If you’re not providing valuable insight, you’re not valuable. Calling Chris Paul a “cone” will get clicks and I’m sure Beverley has plenty of them up his sleeve on a potential podcast.
