Damian Lillard doesn’t want to be a Boston Celtic
After having his name in trade rumors for a few years now, Damian Lillard seems to be shutting down a lot of those rumors, one of which includes being shipped off to the Boston Celtics. Lillard and NBA reporter Chris Haynes have once again shut down this rumor.
One trade that has been on the minds of a lot of NBA fans is sending Lillard to the east coast for Celtics star guard Jaylen Brown. Earlier today, Lillard preferred to be sent to the Miami Heat if a trade were to happen.
Haynes appeared on the Dan Patrick Show where he proclaimed that Lillard will not be going to the Celtics.
“He’s not doing Boston. He’s not,” Haynes told Patrick, via NESN. “I don’t see that.”
Haynes proceeded to double down, saying that Lillard wants nothing to do with being traded to the Boston Celtics.
“I think that’s pretty safe to say,” Haynes said, via NESN.
Lillard has said in the past is that he wants to be in a winning situation. Compared to the Portland Trail Blazers, Boston has racked up many more victories this past decade. The Celtics have been to the playoffs 15 out of the last 16 seasons. They have reached the conference finals five times in the last seven years. Meanwhile, the Blazers have reached the conference finals just once since 2000. Portland has also only made it to the second-round three times in that span, too.
“I speak with Dame pretty frequently about basketball, about life in general,” Haynes said, via NESN. “He would agree that this is kind of like a crossroad situation right here. The Portland Trail Blazers have the No. 3 pick. Damian Lillard wants to win, he wants to win now, he wants to compete for a title. I don’t think he believes that taking that pick and keeping it is going to do them any service in the now.”
