Report: Damian Lillard wants Blazers to target Jaylen Brown

It’s safe to say that things haven’t worked out for Damian Lillard and the Blazers over the past few years. It’s been early playoff exits mixed with many seasons of mediocrity. And this year was no different — Lillard played at an elite level, but the Blazers were still well short of even the play-in tournament.

It’s clear that the Lillard era is coming towards its closing saga, and if the Blazers want any chance to win with him, they need to quickly make some drastic changes. Damian Lillard himself has advocated for this, even asking the Blazers to trade their first-round pick.

He has made it clear that he isn’t wanting to stay and wait for young guys to develop. He knows his prime is coming closer to an end, and I can’t blame him for wanting the Blazers to actually make moves. The question now becomes who Lillard wants them to bring in.

Well according to Yahoo Sports’ Jake Fischer, the player in question is a certain rising star on the Boston Celtics.

“I’ll say that Jaylen Brown is a player that I believe Damian Lillard has had on his proverbial list of those switchy wing-type secondary stars like the Jerami Grants and the Aaron Gordons that have been recently linked to Portland and Dame for a while now,” Fischer said.

Obviously, the addition of Brown would be great for the Blazers, and especially Lillard. As it would create one of the best backcourts in the entire NBA. The issue becomes the Celtics actually being willing to move on from the superstar guard.

Now Brown has expressed issues he has with some of the fans and culture regarding Boston sports. It certainly hasn’t been smooth sailing with him in Boston, especially with him in trade talks basically every season since being drafted.

Despite all this though, Brown is currently having the best season of his career, and will likely earn himself an all-NBA selection. While he is the second scoring option behind Jayson Tatum, he’s still getting plenty of shots up; he’s No. 8 in total field goals attempted.

He and Tatum make up one of the best duos in the entire NBA, and with the state of the two teams, I doubt Brown would want to leave a championship-contending team to join the Blazers.

Overall, it seems very unlikely that the Blazers bring in Jaylen Brown. I don’t think the Celtics want him going anywhere, as of now. Plus, even if they did, I don’t think Portland has the assets to bring him in. It’s an extreme longshot and I think the Blazers should look elsewhere to improve the team.

But time is running out in Portland and it’s clear they have to bring in some real talent really soon. Unless they want to keep wasting the prime years of Lillard.

I must say I admire Lillard’s loyalty, but it will be the downfall of his career. I doubt Portland even trades the pick. They will probably keep it and either miss on the pick or draft someone who will develop well after it could benefit Damian Lillard. I want to say I feel bad for Lillard but he also made his decision.

So, for now, he can continue to hope that the Blazers bring in the likes of Jaylen Brown. And he can continue to be disappointed by the city he has given so much to.
